8/29/2019 (GM-Steve)

During the two months of training, the group purchases some additional potions of healing. Kalin and Lorcan also look for magic items but do not find what they are looking for. Kalin was looking for a +2 LR Shield. He found a +1 LR shield and a +10 LR shield but declined to buy either one. He also looked for a magical helm of protection with no luck. Lorcan was also looking for magical shield but small round. He was also unsuccessful in finding what he was looking for.

Lorcan also spent some time on the scroll that the group found after exploring the Ghost Vault aboard the Sea Ghost. He found that it was mostly the same as the original scroll that gave the group access to the Ghost Vault but with one significant difference. This ritual would also require the heart of a werewolf that was freshly harvested.

After Darkthorn returns from his training in the jungle, the group goes to see Maylor Grinforth, the man who had asked the group to transport a deceased family member to the Isle of Repose. They met with him but he was still awaiting for someone to return to Deep Port. The man had contacted him a couple of weeks ago and expected to be back in the next 10 days or so. Lorcan asked Maylor if he was aware of any werewolf sightings in the vicinity. He was not but Darkthorn asked Lorcan why he was interested in werewolves.

On the way back to the ship, Lorcan explains to Darkthorn what he learned of the scroll. Darkthorn tells the group that while he was training with Redleaf Strongbow, they came across the tracks of some very large wolves who might have been either dire wolves or werewolves in hispo (monster wolf) form. When the group gets back to the ship, they discuss the issue and decide that they will mount an expedition into the jungle to try to find the tracks and see if they lead to werewolves.

The group spends the day equipping themselves for an expedition into the jungle. When Dyson finishes buying a flask of oil and is returning to the ship, he sees a man come out of a dockside tavern who looks a lot like the man who wanted to buy the Sea Ghost back on the Isle of Ruin. He tries to follow him but quickly loses him in the crowded streets. He goes into the tavern and speaks with the bartender. He learns that the man had been asking about the Sea Ghost. He also learns that it is not unusual for people to ask about the ship as it is not one of the normal sea-going vessels that pulls into Deep Port. Dyson tips the man well and asks him to tell him about any further inquiries about the Sea Ghost that go beyond the normal curiosity or come from strangers.

The group discusses the appearance of the man when they have all returned to the ship. A couple people remember that the man's name was Rytoro Stonebreak. The group still wants to make the trip into the jungle but worries that the man may attempt to take the ship. The crew of the Sea Ghost is armed and knows how to fight but Rytoro might have resources to mount a larger assault so the group decides to approach the Chief Magistrate and leverage the favor they did for the baronry into additional protection for the Sea Ghost.

The meeting with the Chief Magistrate goes well and Kalin convinces him to mount an additional guard on the Sea Ghost while the group is in the jungle. The magistrate agrees to provide the additional guards for up to 10 days.

The following day, the group heads into the jungle. It takes two days to reach the area where Darkthorn and Redleaf had seen the tracks, and another three days before Darkthorn finds some fresh tracks. Shortly thereafter the group hears distant howling.

The group sets up camp but has no intention of sleeping. The occasional howls are getting closer. They light a large fire and wait. About 45 minutes later, a group of wolves, who appear to be dire wolves, charge out of the jungle and attack. The battle is short and decisive. The group kills three of the wolves, including one that might actually be a werewolf in hispo form and the rest flee back into the jungle.

The group carefully inspects the wolves but eventually conclude that none of them are werewolves.

Dyson and Barthorn were hurt the most in the battle (including a critical on Barthon for 30 damage). While Dyson does first aid, followed up by healing spells from Kalin, Darkthorn begins skinning the dead wolves to see if he can salvage their valuable pelts.

DARKTHORN: He will use pool points for rerolls and bonuses (up to +10) as needed. Additional rolls [rolled 47 (Failure)], [rolled 46 (Failure)], [rolled 105 (Near Success)].

GM: He uses a pool point to reroll the Absolute Failure and it becomes a normal failure. So he has two good skins. Those with Appraisal skill can attempt a roll (rare item).

GM: This is where we stopped for the night.

DYSON: Appraisal, Rare (30%) – [rolled 99 (Near Success)]

GM: Dyson thinks that the two skins can probably fetch around 800 sp or so in Deep Port.
