The group interacted with the diorama containing the battle axe. Darkthorn and Dyson went in. The natives did not attack but nor were Darkthorn or Dyson able to understand them so they asked Kalin to come in. He spoke with them for a bit and they had no problem with Darkthorn taking the battle axe. When he touched the battle axe, the group reappeared outside the diorama.

The diorama containing the longsword was similar. Barthon and Kalin went in. Kalin spoke with them. After a bit, they said that they could take the longsword. They could also take the canoe if they needed it. Barthon touched the longsword but that did not get them out of the diorama. Barthon figured maybe they needed to row the canoe out of the diorama. They signalled for Darkthorn and Dyson to come in, both of whom knew how to row a canoe. The four climbed into the canoe and Darkthorn and Dyson rowed them down the river. When they reached the edge of the diorama, they reappeared in the temple. They still had the longsword but the canoe went back to its original location in the diorama.

Kalin was not interested in trying for the flail in the diorama that looked like a battle was about to start between a hundred warriors of different tribes. And Lorcan was even less interested in trying for the broadsword in the diorama with the lava and the god creating people. Wiley and Kalin went into the diorama with the four tents. Kalin spoke to a woman in front of a tent and thought she was hostile at first, Kalin convinced her that they were on a divine mission and answered her questions about her religion correctly enough that she eventually reached into her tent and pulled out a broadsword. She handed it to Kalin. When he took it, he and Wiley were transported out of the diorama.

The group was also interested in the diorama of the hunt scene in the alcove. Kalin and Darkthorn went in. Kalin greeted the people in Sumerian but they had confused looks on their face indicating that they did not understand. He heard them speak in Ferrond and switched to that language. It turned out that the hunters (all boys) were waiting for a skilled hunter to arrive and teach them how to skin and butcher a deer. Kalin volunteered Darkthorn to teach them. Darkthorn did a moderately good job at skinning the deer and a good job of butchering and quartering the deer. In return, the cleric offered Kalin the leather scroll tube that he had been carrying. As soon as Kalin took it, he and Darkthorn returned to the temple. Inside the scroll tube was a feather that Lorcan recognized as an invested item.

The group was now ready to depart the room. Lorcan had already noted that the exit door was magically closed. He attempted to open it with magic, something that Dyson normally did but could not do now since he did not have spell points (from his Helm of High Sorcery). Lorcan failed so Wiley gave it a try with a Spell of Opening. He was successful. Beyond the door was a passage that went 20 feet and then turned left. At the corner was a flat gray slate divided into a 10 box grid (5 rows of 2 columns). To the right of the grid were four levers lined up with the lower 4 rows of the grid. Black, graven silhouettes were in the middle 3 rows of the left column. One silhouette showed a man studying a religious text. The next showed the outline of the Kingdom of Onwall and the last showed a silhouette of a man studying a trap. The group wondered if these related to skills and quickly determined that Kalin was good at studying religious texts, Wiley was very good in his knowledge of the Kingdom of Onwall and Dyson knew about traps. The group decided to have Wiley give it a try. He touched the middle silhouette and pulled the lever to the right of it.

Two things happened. The first is that a well-dress man holding a staff appeared amidst the group and the second is that the grid changed. It now had a single wide column and instead of 2 columns. In the top row was a question about the Kingdom of Onwall. In the 4 rows below it were possible answers. Since Wiley knew the correct answer, he pulled the lever next to it and the man said, "correct answer." The question disappeared and a new question appeared that Wiley did not know the answer to. However, Lorcan and Dyson knew that some of the answers were definitely incorrect and helped Wiley pick the right one. Wiley pulled the lever and the man said "correct but invalid answer." The group surmised that Wiley was not allowed to have help in answering the questions.

The challenge proceeded and eventually Wiley answered 10 questions of which he got 7 correct. After answering the final question, the grid went blank and Wiley's +1 Short Bow and quiver of 20 arrows appeared in the judge's hand. He handed them to Wiley and disappeared.

The group turned and headed down the passage. Halfway down was a section where bamboo walls had been painted on the stone walls of the passage. The group was convinced it was a trap even though Dyson did not see one physically and Lorcan did not see one magically. However, after a bit of studying, both Darkthorn and Ori noticed a pressure plate on the floor between the bamboo-painted walls.

Ori used her special ability to leap over the area and landed on the other side. She was no longer in the Sphere of Fresh Air and gagged slightly on the foul air. She opened the door at the end and saw a large, muddy, octagonal chamber with large boulders in the center and four exits leading out, but no way to disarm the bamboo trap. Eventually Darkthorn just ran through it. Bamboo canes swung out of the wall and slapped into him over and over again but he eventually got through (taking some damage in the process). Kalin and Lorcan both tried but failed to get far into the thrashing canes before being thrown back. Dyson made it through with minimal damage, as did Wiley. Then Lorcan had the idea to use a Solid Fog to help him through by putting a tunnel through the middle of the fog. It took two tries but he got it up and that slowed the thrashing canes down so much that he and Kalin were able to make it through without injury. Barthon brought up the rear and also took no damage.

In the muddy room, Darkthorn had spotted a large crayfish in the mud near the boulders. As he stepped into the room, the crayfish shouted out for them to leave or he would be forced to "discharge his sacred duty." When the group did not leave, he shouted some sort of command word and a massive boulder in the center of the room began to move. One of its legs appeared to be a magical staff. Ori took off running towards one of the other exits and others followed. The mud was slick but no one fell. Most moved slowly to avoid slipping.

The massive boulder turned out to be a hermit crab of gargantuan proportions. Barthen did a fantastic leap and landed on top of its shell. Kalin greeted the crab as he made his way across and the crab greeted him back and made no move to attack. However, the group did not stick around to talk further and they piled through the door and into another passage.

The new passage contained another skill challenge. The silhouettes on the grid showed a man constructing a crude shelter in the wilderness, a sign that said "Shadian" and a silhouette of a man hunting. After a bit of discussion, the group decided to have Darkthorn pull the first lever. As with the previous challenge, the judge showed up and questions appeared on the grid, all related to survival knowledge. Darkthorn got 6 of the 10 questions correct and then the judge disappeared and the slate went blank.

GM: This is where we stopped for the night.

GM: Ori has fully recovered from her early issues with the foul air. They eventually went away after spending enough time within the Sphere of Fresh Air.

The group returned and talked to the hermit crab. They learned there were passages to the east through the doorway and did some exploring. They found a tomb that seemed a bit beyond them with the equipment currently available but they also found another skill challenge grid and made use of it. The group also learned from the crab that the feather they found in the diorama of the entry room was an invested Sphere of Fresh Air.

The group proceeded deeper into the dungeon and came upon a room where there was a 60 foot drop beyond the door to a water filled room below. The water appeared to be about 20 to 25 feet deep and was dimly illuminated. Another door exited the room at the same level as this door. Iron rungs led from both doors down the wall to the water.

The judge appeared and asked if anyone wanted to impress him with their diving skill. Barthon took him up on the offer and made a very good, head first dive into the water below.

GM: I missed one thing. After diving, Barthon could have continued with another dive (or maybe more) if he desired to do so. If so, send me some more diving rolls and I will resolve.

In one corner of the water filled room, just above the level of the water, was a skill grid. A stone platform, right at water level, was situated in front of the grid. The group used it.

Elsewhere in the room, on the floor, and thus under the water, was a stone pedestal on which rested a silver pyramid. The pedestal radiated magic. Barthon took the pyramid and, once removed from the pedestal, it no longer radiated magic but the pedestal continued to radiate magic.

The group climbed up the far side and continued on. They found a couple of stone statues and another skill grid. One statue had a couple of obsidian eyes that Dyson climbed up to retrieve and the other had a wooden sword hilt sticking out of the stone carving of a sword sheath behind the shoulder. Dyson climbed up and pulled out a strange-looking sword made of polished wood, with sharp chips of obsidian where the blade should be. The sword radiated magic. Wiley gave his normal broadsword to Lorcan and took this one. It has no sheath so Wiley is carrying it in hand.

A few more skill grids are found and used, some of which result in members of the group getting some of their equipment back. The Sphere of Fresh Air that Dyson had put up finally ends and Kalin uses the invested one in the feather. Lorcan's Detect Magic also finally ends and he puts up another one.

We ended the night with the group in a room where stairs descend into brackish water and a couple of alcoves contain old, non-functional fountains. There is also a skill grid in one of the rooms.

GM: Ori had her first attempt at a skill grid for a challenge related to South Flaeness where she is from. Unfortunately she only got 5 questions correct so did not get any equipment back but she did earn some points so will hopefully get something back at a future challenge.

GM: This is where we stopped for the night.

The group investigates the two alcoves. Barthon finds an amulet among the debris in the bottom of the fountain near the challenge grid. The challenge grid includes Low Eiranay, Gambling and Fungus Lore. Lorcan successfully completes the challenge and gets his PROT 5 Bracers of Protection back.

As the group is looking out over the water, both Ori and Darkthorn notice occasional ripples that indicate something swimming just below the surface. As they are doing so, a melodic, feminine voice sounds from everywhere and asks, "Who has entered the court of Cemanahuac?" Kalin recognizes the name as an evil creature of the Olmani religion who has a slug-like body. He quietly tells the others this but the demon also hears and asks, "Why do you say that I am evil?" Minor conversation of little consequence follows.

Then Barthon enters the pool and starts towards the stairs on the opposite side of the chamber. The scummy water is about 4 feet deep. He gets part way across and then Darkthorn, Lorcan and Ori also enter the water and follow. Barthon gets close to the far side when the floor suddenly gets deeper. He stumbles but, being a sea elf, is not inconvenienced. Then suddenly, slug-like monsters surge forward to attack everyone.

Wiley, Kalin and Dyson, who never entered the water, back away but 4 creatures follow them. Each has 4 tentacles that they attack and rend with. The battle is difficult and, by the time the last slug is killed, Dyson is badly wounded and Barthon is bloodied. Everyone has taken some wounds.

Barthon was familiar with these creatures and remembered there was something about them that could be harvested. Once Lorcan learned that the creatures were called grimslugs, he recalled, from his alchemical training, that the blood could be used to coat weapons and make them temporarily magical for 24 hours (the equivalent of +1 weapons). But you had to be careful not to get the blood on you or it would leave an irritating rash for 24 hours.

GM: This is where we stopped for the night.
