The group spends 30 days in Carrara. They spend most of their time each day reading the magical books that will improve their stats but also spend some time shopping for magical weapons, armor and miscellaneous magic.

They also receive a visitor who is interested in buying the Sea Ghost but they tell them they are really not interested in selling even though he offers 15,000 sp.

After the 30 days, the group sets sail. They head north in the general direction of the World of Grayhawk. Prior to this, Lorcan spent some time at the Mariner's guild researching the best route and the best places to provision on the way.

About 12 hours out from Carrara and the Isle of Ruin, the stern lookout reports a swimmer in the water moments before the swimmer shoots and wings him with a crossbow bolt.

This is where we stopped for the night.



5/2/2019

Wiley rushes to the starboard railing while Dyson heads to port. Both see more swimmers in the water that appear to be some sort of aquatic ogre. All of the ogres are armed with crossbows and begin shooting at those on deck. At the same time, the ship suddenly begins to slow down dramatically.

Then an ogre appears on deck in the ship's waist amid a scintillating field of magic. Wiley and Dyson move up to attack him. Barthon and Darkthorn exit the forward cabin. Barthon goes to assist Wiley and Dyson while Darkthorn uses his bow to attacks the ogres crossbowmen in the water. Lorcan comes out and attempts to case a Mage Wind to get the ship moving again but fails. Kalin exits his cabin at the end of the round and uses his Cleric Pool to add to the offensive capability of the group.

The next round, another ogre appears on the deck. This continues for the next several rounds, where an additional ogre appears each round. Darkthorn continues to shoot at the ogres in the water while the rest of the group focuses on the ogres appearing on the deck. The group is able to keep up with the appearing ogres. Lorcan uses his magic and eventually gets a Mage Wind spell active but first uses a torrential geyser against one of the ogres. Kalin largely stays out of combat and, after casting a Prayer, uses his Cleric Pool to help out the group.

Towards the end of the battle, another ogre surfaces off the port side and casts a Water Bolt at Dyson. Kalin casts a Spiritual Weapon but misses. By then there are only two ogres left alive on the deck and both of them flee while the crossbowmen dive below the surface.

The battle is over. Three dead ogres lie on the deck.

One of the sailors was badly wounded by a crossbow bolt and so Kalin uses a Repair Injury spell on him. Dyson and Darkthorn use first aid on everyone else as the ship gets back up to speed. By the next day, everyone is fully healed from the battle.

It isn't until many days later that Dyson, who was the only one in the group who clearly saw the face of the ogre spell caster, realizes that the cast looked a lot like the man who tried to buy the ship in Carrara. There he approached the group as a large man but perhaps he was really an ogre magi masquerading as a man. It brings up the obvious question of why he was so interested in this ship. By this time, the Sea Ghost is moored in a small city and the group spends a couple days thoroughly searching the ship from bow to stern, crow's next to keel but finds nothing that would seem to make the ship so valuable. True it is a well made little ship but there doesn't appear to be anything else extraordinary about her.

After arriving at the city, the group decides to spend a couple of months training (using the Earning EXP From Training rules).
