5/9/2019 (GM-Jason)

City of Deep Port where we spent a couple of months training. About 5000 people. Several districts. Guildsmen/Tradesmen district. Noble district.

Courier arrives with a letter. House (Maylor) Grinforth requests an audience for a profitable employment offer.

We learn that the house is destitute. It is the poorest house in the city. They can't afford to pay anyone. Cursed with incredibly bad luck with everything they try.

Maylor sister recently died at age 31. She was very gifted. She did not seem to be cursed (until she died).

We go visit him. Maylor looks tired and worn. His clothes are threadbare.

He wants us to retrieve the family ring while we take his sister to the island where his family crypt is located. She is to be buried there.

His offer is for us to bury his sister and get the ring. While we are there, we can also take any other items and we can split the value half and half with him.

Zelcor lives on the island and is the caretaker of the cemetery. Zelcor's Ferry is the name of the landing.

On the way back to the ship, a gentlemen steps out and introduces himself as Alton. He heard we are traveling to the Isle of Repose and wants us to do something for him.

We head to his shop. The Isle of Repose is actually not uninhabited. There is a mining colony that mines a rare mineral that is important to the alchemist. The shipments from the colony suddenly stopped a few months ago and he would like us to look into. Mineral is Unobtainian. Lorcan has heard of it. Can be used to make powerful magic items. No alignment attached to it.

Island terrain is weird. The further inland, the weirder it gets. This is due to magical mineral. The mining colony is actually a prison colony. There are no guards. There is nothing edible on the island so they need to mine the unobtainian to get food. He is not sure who goes to the island to trade for the Unobtainian. Number of prisoners is guessed to be a couple of dozen (but this is a guess).

What is payment for this mission? If we get the mineral, he would have to give most to the owners. He would give 6,000 sp credit in his shop. He sells potions.

Potions we are interested in: Heal, Lasting Enchantment, Super Heroism (this is his specialty), Attunement, Restoration, Positive Energy Channel.

He does not want us to talk about this information.

Later in the day, a donkey cart arrives with the body of the sister in a cheap coffin. We secure it in the hold. There is paperwork on the coffin. We also get a scroll tube from a nicely dressed gentleman that allows us to get to the Isle of Repose. The gentleman is definitely a jerk. He gives us our instructions (arrive at midnight, open scroll and read it, coffin needs to be up on the forecastle and that is where we stand when we read the scroll).

During the night, we see someone watching the ship from the wharf.

The next morning we depart. About an hour later, a large seagull flies over the ship and drops a small tube on the deck of the ship and then flies off. In the tube is a warning message telling us not to steal the stuff.

We arrive at the first set of coordinates and go through the magical ritual. Then we sail on to the island. We see it in the morning.

Zelkor comes out and meets us. He tells.

People arrived and built the village even though Zelkor told them it was improper. About 3-4 years ago.

GM: This is where we stopped for the night.



5/16/2019 (GM-Steve)

As the group is talking to Zelkor, the door leading down to the lower deck suddenly slams open and a woman barges out. She is dressed in a leather vest, well-made clothing and carrying a longsword. She loudly proclaims, "I AM CAPTAIN ELENA STORM BREAKER, MASTER OF THIS SHIP! WHO WOULD CHALLENGE ME FOR THIS RIGHT?" Behind the woman is a humanoid creature that is green and scaly like it has been under the sea for a long time. Slime and algae hang from its course skin.

Darkthorn is closest while Barthon is also on the main deck. Darkthorn's battle axe appears in his hand as he steps forward. The green scaly move up to intercept Darkthorn but Barthon comes over and attacks the woman. Over the course of the round, three more creatures follow the first out the door from the lower deck. All look like sea-encrusted zombies (think Pirates of the Caribbean). Dyson and Wiley move down to the main deck to assist. Kalin casts a Prayer while Lorcan attempts to cast a Water Bolt but fails.

By the next round, Darkthorn is facing two of the sea creatures which he recognizes as some form of zombie, though much stronger than normal zombies. Dyson and Barthon both attack Elena. Another sea creature attacks Barthon while the last one is battling Wiley.

The battle is very difficult. Wiley is the first to fall. Then Darkthorn takes out the first zombie before he too falls. Barthon is badly wounded while Dyson is holding his own. Lorcan moves up to assist Wiley and ends up fighting the zombie on his own when Wiley drops. Kalin uses his Cleric Pool for a time and then moves and attempts to turn the zombies but none of them turn.

Halfway into the battle, the lookouts report bubbling in the sea about 500 yards away. The bubbling becomes more pronounced and more violent over time. Eventually the lookout reports massive tentacles rising up and getting closer to the ship.

Elena is badly wounded when a booming voice from the tentacled creature, clearly heard above the din of battle, commands everyone to "CEASE!" The battle ends immediately. The booming voice continues, clearly addressing Elena, who screams in raging frustration, ""I PROVIDED NO PERMISSION FOR YOUR RELEASE, ELENA STORM BREAKER. MY PERCEPTIONS EXTEND EVEN INTO THIS SHADOWED SEA AND YOUR ESCAPE WAS NOT BENEATH MY NOTICE."

Then a massive tentacle slams down on the ship smashing Elena to the deck. Everyone else manages to scramble out of the way and they stay out of the way as the tentacle continues to slam down smashing her body and doing significant damage to the Sea Ghost as well. Her body becomes a pile of bloody pulp as the tentacle slams down again and again. Then she is nothing but a large bloody spot on the deck. The deck railing is shattered and the main deck is splintered in many places. The tentacle attacks caused the ship to pitch and roll wildly prompting everyone to hold on tight.

When there is nothing more than a large bloody spot where Elena once stood, the tentacles withdraw and the massive creature sinks beneath the sea. The seas slowly return to normal.

GM: This is where we stopped for the night. The group did some first aid and healing and the captain maneuvered the ship back to the pier. Dyson's Absolute Failure First Aid roll on Lorcan caused more damage than Lorcan took during the battle. Both Wiley and Darkthorn were unconscious but were brought around with magical healing. Kalin recognized the tentacled monster as a god by the name of Pyaray, a very evil god of the undersea depths.
