Lorcan casts a Deluge spell to knock down the gas spores and the group crosses the room well away from where the gas spore exploded. The passage beyond connects up with the passage at the top of the other stairs. There is a skill challenge there containing Giant Lore, Scouting and Alchemy. Wiley tries Alchemy and does poorly, scoring only 2 correct answers. He does not lose any items but does lose some points.

They come to a hallway with images of an ancient game where players try to hit a ball into a goal and the players of the losing side are ritually executed. A capstone beneath the nearest goal is engraved with a challenge that dares them to open the pit and play the game. The group decides to play but with Lorcan and Kalin sitting out. Ori and Dyson lift the end of the pit and a ball shoots out. The ball is about a foot in diameter. It passes close to Barthon who tries to grab it. The ball is too slick to grab so he hits in in the direction it was going. The ball moves on its own volition, going further down the passage. The group quickly realizes that they probably want the ball to go to the other goal and start hitting it in that direction. On its "initiative" the ball shoots towards the other end of the hall, attempting to hit a player as it goes. Any hit causes a Cause Light Wounds spell.

Once the group figures out the game, it goes well. They use Brawling or Martial Arts skill to hit or kick the ball towards their goal. Ori is closes to the goal and scores the first goal. After that, the ball comes close to scoring its own goal but Barthon and Dyson hit it back, relaying it through Wiley and to Darkthorn, who scores the second goal. Even though Lorcan and Kalin had planned to stay out of the game, they get involved anyway. Both get hit by the ball and suffer a Cause Light Wounds spell.

Ori scores the third and final goal, the pit opens and the ball drops in. The pit closes over it.

The judge had appeared early and, when the group won, everyone gets a roll to recover an item.

Everyone in the group is wounded so they return to their previous campsite and spend the night. Kalin conjures food and water and he and Darkthorn use their remaining healing.

The following day, the group continues on. They come across another skill challenge with Astral Lore, Language-Brodignagian and Forgery. Lorcan knows Brodignagian a little but not enough to feel comfortable completing the challenge so the group moves on.

They reach some sort of Cat Temple with lots of cat imagery including a couple of statues. There is also another skill challenge with Language-Drow, Fungus Lore and a language they are not able to identify. Lorcan does the Fungus Lore challenge and does well, recovering his Spell Wand.

The group figures out that a calendar stone with a dagger stuck in it probably moves and spends time trying to move it, to no avail. Dyson pulls the dagger out of the stone and the "wound" heals.

GM: This is where we stopped for the night.

09/24/2020 (GM-Steve)

The group figures out that when they throw the dagger in any area of the calendar stone except the segment representing the third month, the wound created by the thrown dagger heals almost immediately after the dagger is pulled out. For the third segment, it remains open longer. Further experimentation reveals that both wounds close almost immediately if the second throw is in any segment other than the seventh. Kalin examines his knowledge of the Olmani language and is able to remember the names of each of the 12 months. The third month is Gerchot and the seventh is Irigan. Then he remembers that the word for Open is Gir and further recalls that the tenth month is named Rontart. Wiley steps back and throws the dagger at the segment representing the third month, then the seventh and finally the tenth. The calendar stone rumbles open.

Beyond is a cylindrical tunnel. The group proceeds cautiously and reaches another wide hall with three doors. The floor in front of one door is glazed as if from intense heat. They try the closest door. It is stuck and Darkthorn is unable to open it. Dyson and Ori move up and push hard. It gives suddenly. Dyson is unable to stop himself and is catapulted into the room - and vanishes. Ori manages to catch herself. Lorcan suggests following immediately in case Dyson is in trouble.

The entire group proceeds through and finds themselves back in the great hall that they had explored much earlier in the their dungeon exploration. As before, the air is foul. The group quickly makes their way back to the upper level outside the spore room. However, there are now three gas spores there so they retreat and head to the other stairs. This exit however, is again blocked by the massive stone so they retrace their steps again and return to the spore room. As before, Darkthorn hits each one with an arrow, causing it to explode and then Lorcan uses a Deluge spell to knock spores to the ground. The group proceeds through the room and returns to the cat room. They choose a different exit that leads to a narrow hall and ends in a widening of the passage and a double door. Halfway down the passage is a skill challenge with Sailing, Animal Training and Cooking. While Dyson and Ori examine the door, Wiley chooses the Sailing challenge. The judge appears but, before Wiley can start on the challenge, five other people also appear. One is a woman of near perfect looks who says something to the judge about a "place of power" and then attacks him. The other four are warriors of near perfect physique. Two join in the attack on the judge while the other two watch the group.

The group attacks the warriors and finds them to be formidable but not unbeatable. They are able to hit often enough but also get hit pretty often. Meanwhile, the judge is engaged in some sort of magical duel with the woman while also being attacked by two of the warriors. The battle lasts about 30 seconds during which Wiley is badly wounded. Then, as the judge is about to go down in defeat, he rises up - and explodes.

LORCAN (OOC): FWIW we did manage to distract a third warrior to try to help the judge, as well as getting an attempt to attack the woman that may have distracted her momentarily, just not enough :(

The group finds themselves scattered throughout the parts of the dungeon they had already explored. It takes a small amount of time but they eventually regroup. Ori has the toughest time as she appeared in a pitch black room filled with water and had no skill with swimming. Nevertheless, she managed to reach a wall and hold on, and then find a door and open it.

Once they regroup, they head back towards where the magical battle took place. However, as they are walking down the hall where they played the game with the animated ball, Kalin hears a voice in his head in Olmani telling him to check under the capstone. They open the capstone under the goal again and find some of their magical items.

GM: For the Luck roll at the end, I will let those with Luck points remaining to make a second roll and use the better of the two rolls. I also need a party luck roll for items in the party treasury.

GM: Here are the Luck rolls you already made. Everyone except Wiley has Luck points remaining so everyone except Barthon, Kalin and Wiley can use a Luck point to make a second roll and take the better of the two.
  • Barthon - 1x
  • Darkthorn - 4x
  • Dyson - 2x
  • Kalin - 1x
  • Lorcan - 5x
  • Ori - 4x
  • Wiley - 4x

DARKTHORN: Use Luck point for a second roll [rolled 7 vs. LUCK 19, MADE BY HALF!].

DARKTHORN: Woo hoo! Five rolls for items:
[1d100]
[1d100]
[1d100]
[1d100]
[1d100]

GM: I received the 5 rolls from Kalin. Two of them result in a random item so go ahead and send a 1d14 and then a 1d13 roll and then I will tell you what is left to choose from for your other 3 items.

KALIN: Item rolls:
  • [rolled 74]
  • [rolled 45]
  • [rolled 95]
  • [rolled 40]
  • [rolled 29]
GM: I need 5 percentile die rolls for Barthon as well.

LORCAN (GM): Yeah, I thought of this at the end as we were finishing up, that particular luck roll ended up pretty important, and I knew I had a luck point remaining, thank you for the offer.

LORCAN TECH: [rolled 10 vs. LUCK 19, MADE BY HALF!]

LORCAN PARTY ITEM LUCK ROLL: [rolled 21 vs. LUCK 19, 2x roll]

GM: This is where we stopped for the night.
