This discipline allows the Telepath to communicate one on one with a creature with whom he shares no common language. While this discipline is in effect, both the Telepath and the target can speak their native languages, but each will understand the other. The Telepath is able to monitor and subtly control the speech and language centers in the subject’s brain to the extent that he is able to pick out the meaning of the communication directly from the speech center. Conversely, as the Telepath speaks, he projects his meaning directly into the subject’s language center.
The telepath can change targets at will but, at no time, can he concentrate on more than one target at a time. Thus, if he is in a room full of people, all of them speaking at once, he can only discern the conversation of one target at a time.
If the telepath is using this discipline to simply listen and comprehend the conversations of other entities, then use of the discipline can only be discerned by those with mental perception ability. If the telepath is engaged in a one on one conversation, then the target may notice that there is something not quite right about the conversation. This chance is equal to (INT x 5) but is reduced by 5% per rank of the telepath with this discipline.
This discipline requires moderate concentration to use and maintain.
Target's protected with a Mind Cloak, or similar effects that cloak the mind, are immune to the effects of this discipline. |
