Description
Haflingers are heavy horses that can be used as either draft horses or riding horses. They are native to the Beodoec Range. Price could be higher if sold in areas far removed from their native area.

The Haflinger is not afraid of steep terrain. Whether being ridden, running free, or towing a heavy load, the Haflinger gets power from its muscular chest and legs. Haflingers raised high in the Beodoec Range also develop larger hearts and lungs, which help them keep going in harsh conditions.

Usual height: 17 hands
Usual weight: 1,800 to 2,200 pounds

Main characteristics: Coat color ranging from pale palomino to dark chestnut; long, pale mane and tail; broad chest; a long, strong back; muscular legs; and tough, hard hooves.

There is not a lot of variety of coat colors and patterns among Haflingers. Many are palomino, though some have coats in lighter or darker shades of reddish borwn. Pinto Haflingers are very rare.

Haflingers are welcomed fro their even temperament, willingness to work, and eagerness to please. Often used as draft horses, packhorses, and trail horses, Haflingers work long and hard - for 30 years or more.

Note: 1 "hand" = 4 inches. Horses and ponies are measured at the withers (the ridge between the shoulder bones). Ponies measure under 14.2 hands when fully grown. Horses stand over 14.2 hands when fully grown.

Weight Allowance
Full Speed: 260 lbs (30 miles per day)
Half Speed: 390 lbs (15 miles per day)
Quarter Speed: 520 lbs (8 miles per day)

Horses spend a lot of time grazing and eating. Thus, a heavily burdened horse moving at quarter speed, is spending a lot of time resting and grazing throughout the day and not a lot of time on the road.
