Description |
Arabians are native to the Yrmen Desert and areas bordering the desert. Price could be higher if sold in areas far removed from their native area.
The Arabian is the oldest of all of the purebred horse lines. The breed is admired as much for its courage and strength as for its beauty. People have ridden Arabians as warhorses and for long journeys across the desert.
Usual height: 15 hands
Usual weight: 800 to 1,000 pounds
Main characteristics: A small head with large eyes; a long neck and short back; high, curving hindquarters; a long, silky mane and tail.
This horse has long legs that are slim, but strong. A standard feature of this breed is its high-carried tail. The high tail comes from having fewer tailbones than other horses. Most Arabians have 16 tailbones and 22 vertebrae (backbones). Other breeds have 18 tailbones and 24 vertebrae.
Arabians can be of any color, including gray, brown or black, the are most often reddish brown with white markings.
Note: 1 "hand" = 4 inches. Horses and ponies are measured at the withers (the ridge between the shoulder bones). Ponies measure under 14.2 hands when fully grown. Horses stand over 14.2 hands when fully grown. |

Comments |
Weight Allowance
Full Speed: 220 lbs (30 miles per day)
Half Speed: 330 lbs (15 miles per day)
Quarter Speed: 440 lbs (8 miles per day)
Horses spend a lot of time grazing and eating. Thus, a heavily burdened horse moving at quarter speed, is spending a lot of time resting and grazing throughout the day and not a lot of time on the road. |
