For each rank with this skill, the psionicist can maintain one discipline requiring Minimal concentration (sometimes called Concentration Points). For purposes of this skill, a discipline requiring Moderate concentration requires 3 Concentration Points while a discipline requiring Full concentration requires 5. Under no circumstances can a psionicist use more than one discipline require Full concentration at the same time, even if his rank with this skill would normally allow this. Willpower (WP) modifies the number of Concentration Points, as indicated below.
Level of concentration is not usually visible. For example, if the psionicist is using a discipline that requires full concentration, it doesn't mean that he physically looks like he is concentrating on something. It simply means that he is using a lot of his mental capacity on a single focus, but his exterior demeanor doesn't necessarily change. He still gets perception rolls (at -20 if using a Full Concentration discipline) and is aware of what is going on around him unless the discipline states otherwise.

Note that this means that someone with a WP of, say 10, needs four ranks of Concentration skill before he can maintain even a single discipline of Minimal concentration, and 8 ranks before he can use a discipline requiring Full concentration.
At rank 10 and higher, the psionicist can even maintain Minimal concentration disciplines while he is sleeping. He can maintain 1 such discipline at rank 10, 2 at rank 15, 3 at rank 20 and 4 at rank 22.
Note that if the psionicist is knocked unconscious (0 or less hit points) all disciplines requiring concentration automatically turn off. |
