Ambush
Ambush is the ability to make a very precise attack. To use this skill, the character must approach his foe undetected and be able to strike before the foe can react. The following are the base bonuses for using Ambush skill:
  • Strike Chance: +rank
  • Damage: +rank
  • Critical Chance: +rank
  • Grievous Chance: +rank/3 (round down)
  • Confirm Grievous: +rank

There are four possible cases:
  • Target not in combat and drowsy or otherwise not alert: +5 SC, +2 Dmg, +2 Critical Chance, +1 Grievous Chance
  • Target not in combat but otherwise awake/alert: No modifiers
  • Target in combat situation (whether in melee or not): All ambush bonuses halved (round down)

Note:Regardless of the situation, the character must still approach the foe undetected and strike before he can react.

Ambush with Ranged Weapons

Ambush skill can be used with ranged weapons with some restrictions.
  • The target is allowed a 2x LUCK or PER roll (their choice) to avoid the ambush. If the target makes their roll, the attacker can still attack (with surprise bonus), and may still hit, but Ambush skill bonuses are not applied. If the target makes a 1x roll, the attacker loses the surprise bonus.
  • Ambush with ranged weapons can only be done at short or point blank range.
  • Attacker must still sneak up without being noticed by the attacker.
  • No other special combat maneuvers can be used in conjunction with Ambush (i.e., no Double Shots, etc.)
  • If the same target is being targeted by more than one ranged combatant, the 2x roll increases by one for each additional attacker, and a separate roll is made for each attacker. For example, a guard is being targeted by 2 archers who have Ambush skill. Instead of a 2x LUCK or PER roll, the guard is allowed a 3x LUCK or PER roll and makes this roll twice, once for each attacker. To determine whether the attacker still gets the surprise bonus, cut the number in half and round down. Thus, with a 3x roll, the target must still roll a 1x roll to cause the attackers to lose surprise bonus. With a 4x roll (3 attackers), the target needs a 2x roll to cause the attackers to lose surprise.
