Focused Attack
A focused attack allows someone using unarmed combat to sacrifice an attack to do extra damage. A focused attack can only be used with Unarmed Combat and Martial Arts.
  • A character with Unarmed Combat must be at least rank 8, and have a minimum STR of 24 or WP of 22, to acquire this skill.
  • A character with Martial Arts must be at least rank 6, and have a minimum WP of 22 to acquire this skill.

Both hands must be free to make a focused attack.

The character gains a bonus of +1 to strike chance and +1 to damage per rank with this skill.

Making a Focused Attack is not without cost:
  • The character loses one attack.
  • The initiative modifier for the round is -3.
  • The character cannot use the Defending combat option.
  • The character suffers a penalty to his DEF. The character must make an Focused Attack skill roll (((DEX - 15) x 3) + (rank x 5)) to determine Defense penalty:
    • Absolute Success: -5 to DEF
    • Success: -10 to DEF
    • Near Success: -12 to DEF
    • Partial Success: -15 to DEF
    • Failure: -20 to DEF
    • Absolute Failure: -25 to DEF and Stumble
    • Blunder: -30 to DEF and Fall

Stumble - The character suffers a -3 to initiative and -10 to all actions for the round after the focused attack.

Fall - The character suffers a -5 to initiative and -20 to all actions for the round after the focused attack as they regain their feet.

A Focused Attack can only be used once per round. If a Focused Attack is used in consecutive rounds, subtract a cumulative 25 from the Focused Attack skill roll (for determining DEF penalty) on the above table for each round that it is used after the first. As soon as the character doesn't use the Focused Attack on a given round, the penalty is removed.

The character's rank with this skill cannot exceed his rank with Unarmed Combat or Martial Arts. Maximum rank with this skill is 10.
