Mining
A Miner is familiar with natural formations of stone and earth. A successful mining perception skill roll will tell him whether a given passage is safe from the chance of collapse. He is able to tell how thick a stone wall is by knocking on it and how long it will take to cut through it. No tools are required to use this knowledge. If the miner is clearing away the debris from a collapsed tunnel, he should have the materials on hand to make tunnel supports or the tunnel may collapse again. Cutting a new tunnel through rock will obviously require picks or the use of certain magic spells. In the latter case, a miner will know best how to apply the spell for maximum effect once he understands what the particular spell does.

They can also performs tasks such as detecting a sloping passage or grade, detect new tunnel or passage construction, detect shifting/sliding walls and rooms, detect stonework traps, pits and deadfalls, and determine approximate depth underground. They can also try to find a specific type of metal or mineral though, the very rare ones will take a lot of time and/or have a significant negative modifier.

The character must deliberately try to make these determinations; the information does not simply spring to mind unbidden.

The character is also skilled at mining including breaking through rock efficiently with a pick, shoring up tunnels with timber, and so on. These skills make use of a Mining Construction roll equal to (((KNOW + INT) - 30) x 1.5) + (Rank x 5).

This skill can also be used to clear away rubble in an efficient manner. For example, the group needs to clear their way through a rockfall in an underground tunnel. Someone with this skill can determine the best path through the rubble and thus, the best rocks and rubble to remove to make such a passage.

Clear Rubble roll is equal to ((KNOW + STR) - 30) x 1.5)

Note that others without this skill can assist the person with this skill in removing rubble but they only use strenght. Their roll is equal to ((STR - 15) x 3).

At rank 8, a character with this skill is also skilled at leading other miners as a mining supervisor. The number of miners that he can efficiently lead is equal to ((CHA - 15) / 2) + (Rank -7). Leadership bonus is equal to (((CHA + INT) - 30) x 1.5) + ((Rank - 7) x 9).
