Spells that affect the character with this talent are enhanced with regard to duration and effect. The character can activate the ability at will and, if affected by a spell while the ability is active, the duration (if other than instant) and effect (if applicable) are increased by 10% per level. Thus, at level 10, the duration and effect are doubled.
When the ability is activated, it remains active for the entire round.
Fractions are rounded normally (.5 and above rounds up; less than .5 rounds down).
This ability does not come into play on spells cast by the character - only spells cast by someone else on the character. It also doesn't apply to any other magical effects such as potions or magic items, even magical scrolls.
This ability is always assumed to be off until the character is about to receive a beneficial spell and is aware of that it is coming. It is then assumed he turns it on only long enough to receive the spell and then deactivates it again. There is nothing preventing the character from keeping the power turned on all the time but then malignant spells will also be enhanced.
Example One: Boric has this ability at level 5 and has been wounded. A cleric is about to cast a Cure Light Wounds spell on him so he activates the ability. The cleric rolls his Cure Light Wounds (2d8 of healing) normally and rolls a 5. Since Boric is level 5 in Magic Enhancer, he increases the effect of the healing by 50% to 7.5 points, which rounds up to 8 points that he is healed. If, on the same round that Boric was healed, he is also hit with a Fireball, then he will also suffer +50% damage from the fireball.
Example Two: Boric has this ability at level 5. Charmin the White Witch casts two spells on him. The first is Bravery at rank 6 which would normally last for one hour and provide a +17 to Fear saves. Because of his rank 5 Magic Enhancer ability, the spell will last for 90 minutes and provide a +26 to Fear saves. Charmin also has a Free Action spell that she previously cast into her Spell Wand. She uses this on him as well but it is not enhanced by the Magic Enhancer ability because it came from the Spell Wand and was not directly cast on him by Charmin. |
