Core Identity
Cold is about preservation, stillness, resistance, and slowing effects.
Rank 1 - Base Effects
- Cold Endurance - For each level with this skill, the temperature is considered 3 degrees warmer (plus bonus) for the purpose of determining the ill effects of cold (damage, etc.). For example, if the character is rank 4, and the temperature is 20 degrees, they treat it as if it were only 32 degrees (20 + (rank x 3)).
- Cold Damage Reduction - The character suffers 1 less point of damage per rank from spells such as Frost Bolt and Ice Storm.
Rank 5 – Cold Acclimation
Minimums:
- Ignore all non-magical cold penalties (movement reduction, dexterity penalties, fatigue checks, etc.).
- Can function normally in freezing water for a number of rounds equal to rank without checks.
Rank 8 – Frost Ward
Minimums:
- Gain partial resistance to cold effects:
- +1 per rank on saves vs freezing, slowing, or immobilization.
- When struck by a cold-based attack, reduce secondary effects duration by 50% (slow, freeze, brittle, etc.).
Rank 10 – Icy Resilience
Minimums:
- Cold Damage Reduction increases to 2 points per rank (instead of 1)
- If damage is reduced to 0, you gain a brief “Frost Shield”:
- +10 defense for 1 round, beginning immediately (i.e., if struck on initiative 8, the bonus will last until initiative 8 of the following round).
Rank 12 – Frozen Vitality
Minimums:
- You can draw endurance from cold environments:
- Regain 1 point of END or non-lethal damage per round while in freezing conditions. If down both, regain NL first and then END.
- You are immune to hypothermia and natural freezing hazards entirely.
Rank 15 – Heart of Winter (Supernatural)
Minimums:
- You become partially elemental:
- Immune to non-magical cold damage.
- Magical cold damage is halved before reductions and saving throws.
- Once per encounter, emit a Freezing Pulse: Adjacent enemies who are not resistant or immune to cold must save or be slowed/frozen for 1 round.
- Your body temperature drops unnaturally: Mundane creatures feel uneasy near you; water may frost slightly at your touch.
If you have both Endure Cold and Endure Heat at rank 10 or higher, you gain the talent Thermal Mastery for free. Your rank in Thermal Mastery is the lower of your ranks with Endure Cold or Endure Heat. |
