The Battle of Falden Vale

Dwarves of glory in the land
Hear the story of our stand!
Koton sent them, evil wight;
There we rent them in their might,
Octon's blade had hewn our dead;
To our aid came Dain the Red.
One great charge into the battle;
Small and large, they fled like cattle;
Ours the pain, pain victorious;
Hail to Dain, the Dwarf-King glorious!

The above poem describes a battle, which took place over 5000 years ago, in which a small force of dwarves defeated a massive host of orcs and trolls. The dwarves were led by Dain the red who later founded the dwarven stronghold of Dormun Deep.

The battle of Falden Vale was only one of many battles fought during that period of time known as the 'Koton Wars'. It was a time when the elves were in the ascendant. One of the wisest elves, Koton, went to the island of Circe to study the engines of war rumored to exist there; a remnant of some long forgotten war, and was corrupted by their evil aura. His first move was to march against the dwarves hoping to enslave them so that the dwarves could build him some of the engines of war he so much desired. His forces, led by the Octan the wraith-general, were defeated by the small army of Dain the red. Koton himself was eventually defeated by the combined might of the elves, dwarves and Jarin.
