LANI: As the group is trying to figure out how the scro were able to create a magical portal on a spelljammer traveling through Otherspace, Lani returns to the body of the scro chieftain that she had fought and recovers his dagger. Then she gives it to KC and says, "I'm guessing this is a magical dagger. The scro threw it at me a few times, even when I was surrounded by other scro. The dagger never hit any of the scro and always seemed to find me."

GM: I will assume that someone will search the bodies as they are gathered up and carried to the upper deck to be tossed over the side. You find a total of 176 sp and 15 gp on the scro. The gold coins were all on the two scro chieftains (the one that tried to control the helm and the one with the magical dagger that Lani killed). You also recover a pair of +1 broadswords, +1 reinforced leather armor and +5 shields (SR) from the same two scro. All of the treasure has been added to the treasure list.

KC: Someone needs to stabilize Sharillla. A couple of us should go check on the rest of the passengers, crew and get our Lay healer to help out.

KC: power perception on the Portal Ring and the Dagger. Might as well look over the swords, armor and sheilds too.

GM: KC learns nothing when he assenses the Portal Disc. It does not radiate as magical. The dagger is definitely magical but the only thing that KC can determine is that it has properties beyond simply being a +X Dagger.

GM: You really know nothing about the portal disc so the value you appraise it at is nothing more than the value of the metal and maybe that it has strange runes, about 20 sp.
GM: Same with the dagger. Without knowing the properties, you would it appraise it at 300 sp based solely on the quality of the workmanship and the fact that it is magical in some way.
GM: The broadswords are probably worth in the neighborhood of 600 sp each.
GM: You are unsure on the armor.
GM: The shields are worth 400 sp each.

KC: something else we should think of is ship security. Bare minimum of adding a door to the pilots rooms so it can be shut and secured. In a time like this.


SHAARILLA: When she wakes up… Spelljammer Lore [rolled 118 (Success)]

TYRA: Tyra will ask if the battle is over and that she can spend time doing first aid. She'll also ask for the group to find Randle to assist.

TYRA: Assuming that she's cleared to proceed with first aid, she'll invoke her Ring of Medicine to speed up the process by summoning the medical servant and boosting her first aid knowledge.

Lani goes off to make a complete round of the Void Wanderer. She is amazed to find that, back in the crew's lounge, there is a card game going on. This is where she finds Randle, as well as Justin, Godfrey's other bodyguard. All are completely unaware that a battle just took place and are astonished to learn what happened. Randle hurries forward to assist with the wounded. Justin follows quickly behind to find Godfrey and make sure he is okay.

GM: Shaarilla slowly comes to consciousness over the next few minutes or so.

TYRA: As soon as she finishes first aid, she'll invoke the healing from her pendant on Shaarilla to help her come around faster. [rolled 6 2 4 6 (+4)- Total: 22]

TYRA: After that, she'll start first aid on the others. As soon as Randle joins, she'll let him take over.


MARTIN: Once the fighting stops, Martin will make a full assessment of the spelljammer, including looking for our passengers and their cargo.

Martin can tell that the Portal Disc was magical not long ago but the magic is mostly gone and what is left is fading fast. He analyzed what he can of the disc and determines that the magic relates to spelljamming in some way. He quickly takes the disc to where Tyra is tending Shaarilla and tells her to examine the magic of it quickly.

Shaarilla looks carefully at the disc and tries to learn what she can from the rapidly fading magic. Although she is unable to understand all of the intricacies of magic that once infused the disc, it reminds her most of how a spelljamming helm is able to see anchor points. The disc seems to be kind of, sort of, but not quite some sort of portable anchor point.

KC: after everything has settled down and we inspect the ship, Cargo and crew. The ring had to get on the ship somehow. I will sit down with a few books (March of Heros and Weapons of the Realm) and look for information on the dagger. (And learn a new skill or two or at least prep to learn them... artifact lore and weapon lore and armor lore).

KC: I am just shy 25 to 30 ep of getting rank 1 in artifact and weapons lore. Figuring out the properties of the dagger is not a huge deal right now. We can deal with it on the way. Right now a thorough search of the ship is needed most I feel? As for the ring? If we can not figure it out or dissemble it..... throw it over the side. After all they may be able to track it. Who ever they are?


GM: When you say the ring, are you referring to the Portal Disc? It is a circular piece of metal about 4 inches in diameter on which are inscribed strange runes.

GM: Go ahead and buy your ranks of Artifact Lore and Weapons Lore and then send a Weapons Lore roll for the dagger.

SYL: Power Perception [rolled 64 (Failure)]

SYL: Once she is feeling better she will find out if she can determine where the Scro came from and if there is another ship nearby

GM: Based on what the group has learned so far, it seems that some external mage was able to create a one way magical portal into the ship in the vicinity of the Portal Disc. The Void Wanderer is barrelling through Otherspace right now so all you see is a constant slipstream of bright colors surrounding the ship. There is no evidence that there is another ship nearby. No on has ever heard of two Spelljammers being able to rendezvous while in Otherspace.

MORTY: It seems likely that this disc is simply a homing beacon of sorts, allowing targeting of the teleportation portal. Hopefully it's not reusable. Maybe we can learn something about it or the enemies who targeted us? Or at least how it got on board by questioning the crew and passengers? I guess it's most likely that it just got slipped into the cargo on the sly :(

MORTY TECH: Power Perception [rolled 98 (Near Success)], Magic Lore [rolled 38 (Failure)], Spelljammer Lore [rolled 106 (Near Success)]


GM: Morty agrees with Shaarilla. The magic has faded entirely from the disc by now. Although he could not say how to craft such a spell or ritual, Morty could envision such a spell or ritual that could home in on an already prepared device that was planted on a spelljammer before it went into Otherspace. It would have to be a very skilled magician to craft such a spell and Morty could believe that such a spell would only be one way until a spelljammer pilot got control of the helm and brought the spelljammer out of Otherspace.

KC: Weapon lore roll (correct format) is a [rolled 97, NEAR SUCCESS - You know the name and 1 property of the item.].

GM: KC recalls a story of such a dagger and it is called a Dagger of Accuracy. He recalls that, once attuned to the dagger, the wielder will never hit an unintended target when he throws the dagger. He may miss his intended target but the dagger will not hit an unintended target. KC does not recall that the dagger returns to the wielder but Lani clearly saw this happening so it must be either another property of the dagger or the scro had some other means of causing the dagger to return.


GM: I will assume that you will toss the scro bodies over the side after searching them and then continue on your way. Randle will take care of the wounded. Is there anything else you would like to do?

KC: I am going to search the cargo carefully looking for any signs of tampering. That disc had to get on our ship some how. I also vote to throw the disc overboard with the scro bodies. Another thought i had was maybe we should built in a way to secure the cockpit from intruders and also maybe a watch routine.

KC: perception roll a [rolled 83 vs. PER 26, 4x roll] or [rolled 27 vs. PER 26, 2x roll] which ever one is better.(26 PER)


GM: The disc was on the floor near some of the crates. It's possible that it had lain there unnoticed prior to the Void Wanderer departing the Kingdom of Celestian. KC finds no evidence that the cargo was tampered with in any way. Godfrey also inspects the cargo carefully, worried that there might have been something stolen but finds no evidence that anything is missing.

LANI: Lani agrees with both Morty's idea of some emergency hatches between the Main Deck and the Cargo Deck, as well as KC's idea to have a way to secure the bridge.

GM: Let me know if there is anything else you want to do after the battle. If not, I will move things along.

KC: I'm good with that

SHAARILLA: Shaarilla was very glad that she had continued maintaining her mage armor, it was bad enough even with the mage armor… She will offer to maintain mage armor for anyone else who wants it. Currently this means casting the spell every two days, with no chance of spell failure using extra spell points.
