The group breathes a collective sigh of relief now that they are out of danger. They load the treasure aboard the Star Sprite without further investigating it at this time. Then Tyra sets about doing first aid on everyone, starting with herself.

GM: Go ahead and make a First Aid roll at -10 (for wounds) for Tyra. Then, even if the first aid fails or does not put her above 20, Barnas can use his final CLW and Tyra can do all remaining first aid rolls with no penalty.

SHAARILLA: “Home at last!” Shaarilla flies up to the pilot’s seat and embraces the console. She pours her last spell point into the Star Sprite, not because she want’s to move the ship, but just to power up the accessories.

TYRA: Tyra drops the sacks of treasure and visibly relaxes as she takes in the familiar surroundings of the Sea Sprite. Diligently she pulls out her first aid kit and gets to work on her wounds.

Herself [rolled 57, wound bound, no healing]
Barnas [rolled 106, wound bound and healed 5 points]
KC [rolled 126, wound bound and healed 6 points]
Martin [rolled 130, wound bound and healed 8 points]
Morty [rolled 42, wound bound, no healing]
Lani [rolled 124, wound bound and healed 8 points]
Shaarilla [rolled 122, wound bound and healed 8 points]
Syl [rolled 75, wound bound, no healing]

LANI: "WOO HOO! Home!" Lani says feelingly as she takes in the familiar sight of the Star Sprite parked in the large open field that serves as the Spelljammer mooring area for the city of Fangora. The city itself is visible and nothing untoward seems to be happening there. Other people are visible in the distance. It appears to be about mid-afternoon.

LANI: After resting a bit, she will assist KC and others in looking through the sacks, coffer and chest.

Each of the sacks is filled with thousands of coins. Each sack weighs 20 to 25 lbs. Four of them contain copper coins and the other two contain silver coins. Wanting to be somewhat discrete about the coins, KC spills them out of the sacks, one at a time, in the tiny cabin of the Star Sprite and then counts them. As each sack is counted, he returns the coins to the sack and Morty makes a note of the amount. This takes some time but they eventually count out a total of 9,380 silver coins and 17,489 copper coins. Both KC and Morty wonder why there are no gold or platinum coins and eventually conclude that the Beast Maker probably has a more secure vault where he kept his most valuable treasures.

The coffer, in addition to having held the Greater Luckstone, which has been used and crumbled to dust, also contains 23 more gems. No one in the group is very skilled at appraising gems but those who have some knowledge - KC, Morty and Syl - make their best estimate. KC estimate their worth around 5,000 sp. Morty suspects they are worth a bit more, maybe around 6,000 sp. Syl puts their value closer to 4,500 silver. In any case, the group has a general range and can take them in and sell them.

The last item is the chest, which is not locked. The largest item in the chest, wedged in at an angle, is a small round shield of distinctive design. The face of the shield is vibrant, shiny black embedded with dozens of tiny gems of various colors. Looking at it is like looking at the night time sky. The chest also contains two small velvet pouches each holding a ring. One ring is black in color and, like the shield, is embedded with tiny gems. The other ring is a bronze ring with scrollwork around the circumference. Finally there are five wands. One wand is almost a foot and a half long and made of petrified wood. The remaining four wands are each less than a foot long and are made of dark blue crystal. Each is very thin and appears quite fragile.

Once all of the containers have been opened, Syl checks for magic. She finds that none of the gems or coins are magical but the shield, two rings and five wands are all magical.

GM: Those with Artifact Lore can make their rolls. You will need a total of four Artifact Lore rolls, one for each ring, one for the petrified wooden wand and one for the other four wands.

GM: Those with Armor Lore can attempt a roll for the shield.

BARNAS: Last CLW on Tyra [rolled 6 2 (+4)- Total: 12]

BARNAS: Artifact Roll [rolled 92 (Near Success)] Black Ring
BARNAS: Artifact Roll [rolled 58 (Failure)] Bronze Ring
BARNAS: Artifact Roll [rolled 78 (Partial Success)] Petrified Wand
BARNAS: Artifact Roll [rolled -50 (Blunder)] Other Wands
BARNAS: He will use is Cleric pool to boost the results

SHAARILLA: Everything Lore rolls:
Shield: [rolled 46 (Failure)]
Black Ring: [rolled 80 (Partial Success)]
Bronze Ring: [rolled 89 (Partial Success)]
Petrified Wand: [rolled 112 (Success)]
Crystal Wands: [rolled 29 (Failure)]

MORTY TECH:
Shield: Armor lore 30% [rolled 41 (Failure)]
Black ring: Artifact lore 30% [rolled 120 (Success)]
Bronze ring: Artifact lore 30% [rolled 62 (Failure)]
Petrified Wand: Artifact lore 30% [rolled 114 (Success)]
Crystal Wands: Artifact lore 30% [rolled 82 (Partial Success)]

GM: No one (so far) knows anything about the shield.

GM: The black ring is a Ring of Shooting Stars. Shaarilla knows little more than the name of the item and the fact that it can somehow call down fireballs. Barnas recalls that it can call down three fireballs a week. Morty knows that it can call down three fireballs a week but also has other properties that create ball lightning and magical light but these only work outside at night. It has more limited powers that work in doors or underground. It will take some Identify rituals to find out everything to know about the ring.

GM: Shaarilla recognizes the bronze ring as a Ring of Growth but doesn't recall anything else other than that the attuned wearer can grow. Neither Morty nor Barnas know anything about it.

GM: The petrified wand is a Wand of the Tunnel Worm and allows the user to summon a creature called a tunnel worm by expending charges. There are different size worms and there are other things about the wand that no one remembers so an Identify ritual will be necessary.

GM: Shaarilla is unsure what the crystal wands are and there is disagreement between Barnas and Morty about what they think they are. One thinks they are Wands of Altering Magic while the other thinks they are Wands of Enhancing Magic. They only thing they agree on is that they are all the same type of wand. An Identify ritual will need to be used.

SYL - Anything Lore
Shield: Every Lore [rolled 39, FAILURE - You know nothing about the item]
Black ring: Every Lore [rolled 96, NEAR SUCCESS - You know the name and 1 property of the item.]
Bronze ring: Every Lore [rolled 134, SUCCESS+ - You know the name, some history, and 2 properties of the item.]
Petrified Wand: Every Lore [rolled 23, FAILURE - You know nothing about the item]
Crystal Wands: Every Lore [rolled 75, FAILURE - You know nothing about the item]

Once Syl finishes resting, she comes over to assist those examining the magic items. She agrees with the assessment of the black ring and has no other knowledge add, but disagrees on the bronze ring. "I think you are right, Shaarilla, in that it will let you grow but I think it will also let you shrink. I'm pretty certain it is a Ring of Varex that allows variable growth and shrinking from tiny size to giant size. I don't anything about the other items."

TYRA: Tyra will look over the shield.
Armor Lore [rolled 63, FAILURE - You know nothing about the item]

KC: looks over the magic items and thinks about what they may be as he is counting coins and inspecting gems.
Shield [rolled 72, FAILURE - You know nothing about the item]
Black ring [rolled 145, SUCCESS+ - You know the name, some history, and 2 properties of the item. You know about 1 flaw or curse (if any).]
Bronze ring [rolled 103, NEAR SUCCESS - You know the name of the item, if applicable, but nothing more]
Petrified wooden wand [rolled 66, FAILURE - You know nothing about the item]
Crystal wands [rolled 75, FAILURE - You know nothing about the item]

KC does not have much to add with regard to most of the items but when the topic of the black ring comes up, he concurs that it is a Ring of Shooting Stars and recalls that if used underground or indoors, its powers are limited to Faerie Fire and some sort of area effect electrical blast. He is not aware of any flaws or curses and suggests that it is a very nice and versatile magic item, especially out in the phlogiston.

MARTIN: Lore rolls
Shield: Armor Lore [rolled 78, PARTIAL SUCCESS - You know the name of the item, if applicable, but nothing more]
Black Ring: Everything Lore [rolled 94 (Near Success)]
Bronze Ring: Everything Lore [rolled 34 (Failure)]
Petrified Wand: Everything Lore [rolled 64 (Failure)]
Crystal Wands: Everything Lore [rolled 69 (Failure)]

Martin says, "I remember reading about this shield. It's called the Star Shield and it..." He pauses thinking hard. After a long pause he adds, "and that is all I remember about it."

The only other item he recognizes is the black ring but others know more about it than he does.

The next few days pass uneventfully as the group rests after their grueling ordeal. The gems are exchanged for coins and the money is split up among the group. Barnas gets a good deal for the gems and the group ends up with 15,966 silver to split, giving each person 1,774 silver plus a share for the group treasury. Those with tithing (Barnas, KC, Martin, Lani, Syl and Tyra) end up with 1,596 silver.

GM: I've added the coins to the character sheets.

The group has, to some extent, identified all of the magic items except the crystal wands. Nevertheless several Identify rituals are need to identify specifics regarding some of the items such as exact powers, power words and charges. Three people in the group have some knowledge of the ritual but Shaarilla is the best with it. It takes her 9 days, 9 pearls (which are easily available in Fangora) and 1 luck point to learn all about the items. The names of all of the items were already known except for the 4 crystal wands. Barnas and Morty had disagreed about what these were and it turns out that Morty was correct in identifying them as Wands of Enhancing Magic.

GM: You can look up the items on the website if you don't know what they are: Wand of the Tunnel Worm, Ring of Shooting Stars, Ring of Varex, Star Shield, Wand of Enhancing Magic (x4)

GM: The Star Shield can be used as a small round or a large round shield and has the ability of flight. The attuned user sits or stands on the shield and can fly. It can fly in both air and the phlogiston but is faster in the phlogiston.

GM: Once you have looked them over, please indicate your preference. There are enough magic items for everyone to have one.

LANI: First choice is the Ring of Varex. Second choice is one of the Wands of Enhancing Magic.

SHAARILLA (GM): How many charges does the Wand of the Tunnel Worm have? Can it be recharged?

SHAARILLA: As for selecting magic items, Shaarilla doesn’t have much use for the Wands of Enhancing Magic. Although she has magic weapons that could be enhanced, she only uses them when she can’t use magic. Both the Wand of the Tunnel Worm or the Ring of Shooting Stars would give her more tech options that don’t depend on spell points, although both are situational. Perhaps the best would be the Ring of Varex. Growing to 7.5 feet tall would use no charges, but would increase her strength from 10 to 25! This would B a little more effective in combat, although she would still be very fragile. There is also the fun aspect of shrinking to the size of a fairy.

SHAARILLA: Bottom line is that Shaarilla doesn’t have any particular attachment to any of the magic items so if anyone has a particular item they want, Shaarilla will not contest them for it. She would prefer to have an item that would let her be more useful when the group gets in combat, and is open to suggestions as to which item would be best for that.

SHAARILLA (OOC): Anyone have any comments as to if a 25 strength Shaarilla would be any use in combat, or would she just get herself hurt trying. Her current Strike Chance is 84.

MORTY: "I do really like the idea of the star shield, being able to use it as a platform to get up higher working on my projects, work on the Star Sprite's hull if necessary, etc. I may even ride it around in dungeons and use its superior mobility to stay out of reach or get high enough or around behind an enemy to get a clear shot with my pistol. The wands of enhancement are only useful if I can go out and find a Ring of Protection for sale and then enhance it, I literally have nothing I could enhance other than my shield, and that's Spelljammer's gift, I am not sure how it would react, or if I even should attempt that.

BARNAS: One of the four wands is fine, the shield could be ok too. Barnas would be fine with studying/research EXP if that is what people wanted.

LANI: After learning more about the Ring of Varex and how it would make her clumsy when she grew, she changes her mind and now prefers one of the crystal wands.

GM: Despite what the description says, the crystal wands can be used on any magic item to improve it. I don't plan to use the "chance of success" indicated in the description. Each wand will work to improve something, or maybe add something, to the target magic item.

TYRA: "I guess I'd prefer one of the crystal wands. The ring of Varex is rather interesting but I don't know how much I'd use it."

LANI: "My main interest in the Ring of Varex was to be able to fight giants better by growing to their size and also to scout better by shrinking. I am still somewhat interested so would say that it is a secondary preference."

SYL: prefers the Ring of Shooting Stars or one of Wands of Enhancing Magic.

SHAARiLLA (OOC): Since my character had the ring of Varex last game, maybe it’s someone else’s turn. It was one of the most fun items Philyra had, second only to the Ring of the Sky Blue :-)

KC: I would be interested in either the Ring of Varex one of the Crystal Wands. As Lani pointed out it could be useful for scouting.

GM: Here is what I am seeing for primary preference and (secondary preference):

Wand of the Tunnel Worm - Shaarilla
Ring of Shooting Stars - Syl, (Shaarilla)
Ring of Varex - KC, (Lani)
Star Shield - Morty
Crystal Wand - Lani
Crystal Wand - Barnas
Crystal Wand - Tyra
Crystal Wand - (Syl)

GM: I have not yet heard from Martin but if he is good with one of the crystal wands, then the split could go like this:

Wand of the Tunnel Worm - Shaarilla
Ring of Shooting Stars - Syl
Ring of Varex - KC
Star Shield - Morty
Crystal Wand - Lani
Crystal Wand - Barnas
Crystal Wand - Tyra
Crystal Wand - Martin

MARTIN: Martin is interested in one of the Crystal Wands. He has a passing interest in either the shield or either ring (i.e. secondary choice).

GM: I have added the Wand of the Tunnel Worm (23 charges), Ring of Shooting Stars, Ring of Varex and Star Shield to the Magic Item list.

GM: Let me know what Barnas, Lani, Martin and Tyra want to use their Crystal Wands on. Technically someone will need to attune to the wands and then use them on the items but you have enough mages in the group with high MA (and thus, high attunement rolls) that I am not going to worry about who attunes to each wand and uses it. The end effect is that they will be used on items belonging to Barnas, Lani, Martin and Tyra.

LANI: Lani will ask Shaarilla to attune to her Crystal Wand and then use it on her Battle Gi.

GM: I need attunement rolls from the following:
Shaarilla for the Wand of the Tunnel Worm
Syl for the Ring of Shooting Stars
KC for the Ring of Varex
Morty for the Star Shield

For the first few days after returning, everyone still has that strange feeling of emptiness (from the CON drain). For everyone except Barnas and KC, this has gotten a bit better after 3 days and for everyone except Barnas, KC, Morty and Shaarilla, they are back to normal after a week. A few days later, Barnas, KC and Morty are back to normal but it takes a full 2 weeks before Shaarilla has fully recovered from the CON drain.

When the group first visits Fangora, they learn about the abortive attack by the orcs. No one seems entirely sure where the orcs came from other than some underground tunnels under the city. A couple hundred orcs attacked and certainly caused their share of destruction but were all killed within an hour of the attack. The city has mostly returned to normal by this time.

The group seeks out Malia (the enchanter that the group rescued from the Blood Scourge) and informs her that they successfully recovered the piece of the Crystal Wand. She is delighted and takes the group to meet her mentor, Horatio Knot. They present him with the piece of the wand. Horatio is a very old man with long white hair and no beard. His face is wizened with a couple of ancient scars. He takes the wand with little fanfare and says, in a voice brimming with age, "The agreed price was 1,000 silver."

He walks over to a desk, opens a drawer and pulls out a small pouch. He opens it and counts out 10 platinum coins. He returns the pouch to the desk and then walks back to the group and hands the coins to Shaarilla. "If I learn of the locations of any more of the pieces of the wand, I will ask Malia to seek you out and hire you to retrieve them, assuming you are available for such a task."

The act of talking has wearied him so Malia shows you out.

GM: I added the coins to the party treasury. They covered the cost of the pearls needed for the Identification rituals with a bit left over.

LANI: Once back at the Star Sprite, Lani says, "I wouldn't mind spending a month or two training and then making an attempt at the Amber Key. What do others think?"

TYRA: "I like the idea of taking some time off to train and prepare for seeking the Amber Key. I'd like to also do some shopping too."

SYL: Think that sounds like a great idea!

SYL (GM): what will be the limits of what we can and cannot train for??

GM: If you decide to spend two months training skills, here are the options:

Practice - Spend 200 sp and earn 1000 exp that can only be spent on non-combat, non-magic skills.
Reading and Practice - Spend 400 sp and earn 1500 exp that can only be spent on non-combat, non-magic skills.
Trainer and Practice - Spend 800 sp and earn 2000 exp that can only be spent on non-combat, non-magic skills.
Combat Skills - Spend 900 sp and earn 1200 exp that can be spent on combat skills.
Magic Skills - Spend 1000 sp and earn 1200 exp that can be spent on magic skills and spells.

MARTIN: He’s also interested in spending a couple of months training before continuing their quest. So far, much of what’s been chasing them has been far stronger and training could help close the gap a bit.

KC: he will spend the month learning to speak better in Jirdunian and orcish. He wants to find a teacher for them, but if he can only find a teacher for orcish that is okay. He will still spend time with the Jirdunian primer and spend time learning Drow better.

SYL (GM): Assume those costs are per month?

GM: The cost is for 2 months. If you only want to train for one month, cut the cost and EXP earned in half.

SYL: Are we staying one month or two? She has sp but no XP and the 2K XP will only go so far; to raise her combat and magic is more than she can earn :( She does want to go shopping though...

GM: Those who want to purchase stuff can go ahead and do so. Just let me know how much you spend. If you want someone, probably Barnas, to barter for better prices, send a list of what you want to buy and the costs.

GM: It sounds like people are in agreement to spend 2 months training. Let me know how you want to spend the time.

LANI: Lani will go with the Trainer and Practice for 800 sp. This will give her 2000 EXP to spend on non-combat, non-magic skills.

KC: He will spend the month learning to speak better in Jirdunian and orcish. He wants to find a teacher for them, but if he can only find a teacher for orcish that is okay. He will still spend time with the Jirdunian primer and spend time learning Drow better.

KC: (GM) He will take teacher and training option for 800 silver and 2000 experience.

KC: (GM) i want to pull back some experience points from the August points i spent. I am thinking -1 rank on sorcery skill.

KC: why is the Drow language so expensive to learn? In a normal fantasy setting where they are highly reclusive i can understand, but in the spell jammer universe they seem to be a lot less reclusive. (We have two in our party)

GM: I checked and it looks like the exp multiple for Drow is 200 which is the same for most other languages including Elvish. Are you seeing something different?

BARNAS: He will hold on to his wand for a bit... (He is still looking to upgrade his armor)

BARNAS: The 2 month trainer and Practice for 800 sp please. He will use the 2000 exp from that to boost Artifact Lore. (He will also use some normal EXP that he has been saving)

MORTY: "We should probably talk about any tools or group needs we are getting. Did someone grab some iron spikes or should I? I'd love to get a Ring of Protection but those get expensive fast."

MORTY (GM): Are there any Rings available here? It's probably not worth the cost to get a +1 and I can't really afford a +2, so I'm not shopping in earnest, but I thought others might be interested who had more money. Even a Cloak of Protection would help a few people...

MORTY (GM): I will train for 2 months with trainer and practice.

SYL: Syl will go with the Trainer and Practice for 800 sp. This will give her 2000 EXP to spend on non-combat, non-magic skills. Since the next quest is to look (more??) for the Amber Key she will be concentrating on her Lore Research. She will raise her Area Lore - Celestian (where we are- correct??), Area Lore SpellJammer (where the Key needs to be), Cultural Lore - Spell Jammer, and Phlogiston Lore.

SYL (GM) - I know the SpellJammer is in Putarrhan Sector; any Flash of Insight from anyone as to which Sector we might be heading to??

GM: I awarded the Trainer and Practice EXP to KC, Barnas, Morty and Syl. Go ahead and spend the 2000 EXP on non-combat, non-magic skills.

GM: I set Gem and Jewelry Appraisal as a Skills 1.0

TYRA: Tyra is uncertain what she'd like to train for so she will choose some interpersonal skills such as Character Judgment. She'd also like to work on Conversation too.

SHAARILLA: Shaarilla would like to take this time to study Phlogiston Lores and Jirdunian Lore. She would also like to cast the Find Familiar ritual to improve Elsa. With all the day long rituals she's been casting, she may not have as much time to study as the others.

SHAARILLA: Ten-hour Ritual of Preparation followed by Find Familiar: Cast chance 67% [rolled 15 vs cast chance of 67 - Successful Cast Chance!], next special ability [rolled 49]. Please deduct the cost of materials used.

SHAARILLA: Shaarilla continues to cast Mage Armor on herself every night so that it never runs out. Here is an effects roll for next time it's needed [rolled 5]

GM: Elsa gained a +1 WP as a result of the ritual. I marked off the 100 sp cost of the ritual and added the +1 WP to Elsa.

GM: Is Shaarilla going to go with the 2000 exp for 800 sp option and spend them on non-combat and non-magic skills? I wouldn't worry about a day here and there for casting long rituals.

SYL: Will spend some of her time shopping in Fangora, looking specifically for books on SpellJammer lore that might mention the Amber Key or or Jirdunian lore. Additionally, she will look for the following items (if successful she will ask Barnas for help bargaining):

Magic Bolts for her Hand-Crossbow
Upgrade to her +1 Small Shielf
Boots of Speed or Elvenkind
Cloak of Displacement or Elvenkind
Gauntlets of Ogre Power
Helm of Protection
Upgrade to her Luckstone
Bag of Holding

SYL: Any Drow-specific equipment she can find.

GM: Syl can find magical quarrels for her hand crossbow. +1 quarrels are 2 sp each and +2 are 5 sp each. She also finds a +10 Small Shield for 1000 sp. With her current rank with small shield, it would improve her DEF by 5 but is probably not worth it in the long run since a +1 Shield gives the same DEF once she reaches rank 10 with shield, and has a better bonus when her shield rank improves beyond rank 10.

TYRA: Tyra is interested in shopping for better magical armor than her Ring +1. She's also like to see if a magical morning star or flail is available. She is doubtful she has enough silver to buy much of anything but she'd like to know her options.

TYRA: As Tyra talks openly about her shopping plans, she realizes that she only has enough silver to purchase one significant item. Therefore, she'll focus on upgrading her armor. She'll look for Chain +1. She suspects that Plate +1 will be out of her reach, even with trading in her ring mail, but will verify that to be the case.

GM: Tyra has better luck with Armor than Syl had with her magical wish list. She finds +2 Ring Mail for 2000 sp (PROT 7, LOW 2, DEX Penalty -3), +1 Scale Mail for 1200 sp (PROT 7, LOW 1, DEX Penalty -4), and +1 Chain Mail for 1350 sp (PROT 8, LOW 2, DEX Penalty -5). The base buyback value of her +1 Ring Mail is 500 sp. Barnas could probably help her out with both the cost of the new item and the buyback value of selling her current armor.

GM: She does not find any magical morning stars or flails.

TYRA: The young warrior takes this as a sign that focusing on her armor is indeed the best course forward. She's most interested in the Chain +1 and will ask Barnas to help with bartering for both a lower price on the armor and the trade-in value of his Ring +1.

GM: I need 2 barter rolls from Barnas.

BARNAS: Barter Roll for Chain Mail +1 [rolled 134 (Success)]

BARNAS: Barter Roll for trade-in [rolled 92 (Near Success)]

BARNAS: Any chance there is a second set of Chain Mail? Because Barnas would be interested in that.

GM: There is a second sent of +1 Chain Mail available. Go ahead and send another barter roll (or 2 if you have armor to sell as well).

GM: Barnas is able to increase the value of the trade in from 500 to 525 and decrease the cost of the new armor from 1000 to 900. Tyra owes 375 sp, which I have marked off of her character sheet. I updated the magic item list to remove the +1 Ring Mail and add the +1 Chain Mail. Let me know if Tyra is going to use her wand to make it +2 Chain Mail.

BARNAS: Barter Roll for Chain Mail +1 [rolled 80 (Partial Success)]

BARNAS: Barter Roll for trade-in [rolled 203 (Absolute Success)] of +1 Scale Mail

GM: Barnas is able to negotiate a trade so that he only has to pay 650 silver for the +1 Chain as he trades in his scale mail. I have marked off the money and changed his armor on the magic item list. Go ahead and change it on your character sheet.

TYRA (GM): Yes, Tyra will use her wand to make it +2 Chain Mail

GM: Okay, I removed her Wand of Enhancing Enchantment and changed her chain mail to +2. Go ahead and update her character sheet.

MARTIN: will study non-magic, non-combat skills while we have time in Fangoria. He's also interested in doing some shopping for magic items and potions. Her's looking specifically at rings, necklaces, braces, but will consider pretty much anything.

GM: I marked off 800 sp and added 2000 exp to spend on non-combat, non-magic skills.

MARTIN: He'll also use the Crystal Wand to upgrade his armor to +2 (I'm assuming that's how they work?)

GM: That's exactly how it works. I changed it in the magic item list. Go ahead and change it on his character sheet.

KC: while here I will look into seeing what transformationist spells I can find and what general spells and circles are available.

GM: Just about any general spell and circle can be found for the right price. Which spells/circles do you want?

KC: while studying I have learned to speak Drow better to rank 2, also Jirduian to Rank 4 and picked up some Orcish to rank 3.

KC: I would also like to try and do some research on the area we are going to. See if I can find anything about it.. [rolled 70 (Failure)]

GM: KC's research reveals nothing about where to go next (I will be calling for other rolls but will wait until we resolve the training and magic item search first.)

SHAARILLA: Yes, that option. studying Phlogiston Lores and Jirdunian Lore. The Phlogiston Lores so that she has some idea of where she’s going as a pilot, now that she’s actually a pilot. The Jirdunian Lore since that seems helpful to find the keys.

KC: One other thing that I think would be good to do; is th have me cast some of my spells on other people in the group so that they can experience them and practice with them a bit so if we have to use them they will be familiar with them. Spells like featherfall, jump, spider climb, feathery flyer. Better to do that now than latter for the first time, when we need it.

LANI: Lani happily volunteers. She thinks a lot of transformation spells are very useful for martial artists. (Hmm, a martial artist/transformation mage? Never been done before! :))

MARTIN: Here’s some luck rolls for his shopping interests:

[rolled 61 vs. LUCK 20, 4x roll]
[rolled 63 vs. LUCK 20, 4x roll]
[rolled 13 vs. LUCK 20, 1x roll]
[rolled 71 vs. LUCK 20, 4x roll]

SHAARILLA: attunement [rolled 89]

SHAARILLA(GM): Did you get confirmation of Shaarilla’s study plan?

GM: Yes I did, thanks.

KC: these are a list ofspells.he is looking for.....

KC: Transformation: Fireblood, Free Action, Wings.
KC: General list spells: light, magic missle, find familiar, read magic, call of the trade baron

GM: KC finds the following spells available for the listed prices:

Fireblood: 480 sp
Free Action: 1875 sp
Wings: NA
Light: 375 sp
Magic Missile: 1425 sp

Find Familiar: 1000 sp (or Shaarilla can teach it to you)
Calling the Trade Baron: NA

SYL: As (STRONGLY) hinted by GM, Syl will raise her SpellJammer Astrogation to Rank 4 as well as Area Lore Celestian to Rank 4.. Additionally, she will buy 20 +1 bolts (40sp) and 10 +2 bolts (50sp)

SYL: She will also be looking for some spells to put in her spell book. For GK Mage Armor (can she copy from Sharilla?) and Find Familiar. For Dark Magics - SK Black Fire, Meteors, Web of Blackness, Wraithform, Conjure Dark Sphere.

GM: She finds the following spells available for the following costs.

Black Fire: 1350 sp
Meteors: NA
Web of Blackness: 940 sp
Wraithform: 975 sp
Conjure Dark Sphere: 2500 sp

SYL (attune to Ring of Shooting Stars): 96 or less [rolled 11]; if she somehow misses she will use a Luck Point [rolled 53]

SYL (GM): was the shopping one time for the 2 months or once per month??

GM: If you mean for magic item availability, it was for the 2 month duration of the group's stay thus far.

KC: attunement roll of 89 0r less need for the Ring of Varex rolled a [rolled 67].

KC: I Go and talk to Barnas to see if he has the time to going help me buy a few spells. I would like to Purchase the light spell and the Fire Blood spell.

KC: also earlier in our stay I approach Sharilla, "You mind if I pet your owl?" As I am there I will talk about magic and sometime during the discussion I will ask, "Could you teach me the how to get a familiar of my own? I would greatly appreciate it."

SYL: Me Too! Me Too!! Additionally she would like to learn Mage Armor from Sharilla. As a trade off, Syl is probably going to buy the Magic Missile spell. She will see if Barnas is able to bargainfor a lower cost and also see if any of the other Mages want to split the cost of the spell...

SHAARILLA: Shaarilla would be happy to teach Mage Armor to Syl. She also already has Magic Missile as well. Finally, Shaarilla has mastered Mage Armor to the point that she no longer has to worry about spell failure, she succeeds automatically. So at the end of the day, she can cast it on anyone who wants it for the next day (Assuming she has spell points left).

SYL: can sharilla also teach Syl Find Familiar?

SYL:
Learn Spell (Mage Armor): [rolled 40]
Learn Spell (Magic Missile): [rolled 38]
Learn Spell (Find Familiar): [rolled 91]

MORTY: "I am happy to learn any spells being shared, or to teach ones that I have, but I only have two that are not Illusionist specific, Spell Store and the Ritual of Identification, I believe most of you already know those if you wanted to. If we are trading or purchasing, I am just as impoverished in assets there as I am in coinage, I suppose ;) Read Magic is probably the one I need most, in case it applies to special cases of Jirdunian writings or magical traps, I guess I can pay for a share of that if it's being purchased. 90% chance to learn base, will take extra time if it can be useful, if we're not already getting the last 5% from a teacher.

MORTY TECH: Spell learn on Read Magic: [rolled 51]

MORTY TECH: Attunement to the Star Shield 75- [rolled 15] Will use a luck point if necessary, I believe I have at least one left this month?

MARTIN: Any luck with shopping for magic items for Martin? He had been looking at necklaces, rings, bracers and potions.

GM: You don't have any luck with suitable necklaces, rings or potions but do find a Brace of Throwing Weapons for 1000 sp. It's like a Brace of Weapons in that it can store weapons but is designed specifically for ranged weapons and, when a ranged weapon is drawn from the bracer and thrown, it will teleport back into the bracer in 1d3 rounds.

TYRA: Once Martin mentioned the brace, Tyra speaks up. "I don't know if you want that brace but if not, I would really like to have it. It's a pretty unique item and I'm not sure if we'll see one like it again. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to purchase it, so would others be willing to loan me the silver to buy it?"

SYL: since she didn’t have much luck shopping and was able to obtain the spells she was really looking for from Sharilla she has some (for once) disposable income and will loan it to Tyra.

MARTIN: Martin will happily purchase the bracers and give them to Tyra.

TYRA: Tyra thanks them both for the assistance and says she's got 500 silver she can use for the bracers. She will pay back the rest of the bracers once the group collects more treasure. She does say that there's a chance she won't attune to the bracers so hopefully, that's not the case.

TYRA (OOC): I assume the final cost will be adjusted by whatever Barnas can negotiate with his barter skills.

GM: Barnas is able to negotiate a 10% discount to the price, bringing it down to 900 sp. Tyra pays 500 sp and Syl and Martin throw in 200 sp each for the rest. I've updated the money to reflect this. Tyra can make an attunement roll for the brace.

TYRA: Tyra will use her potion of attunement. Attune roll 1: 75- [rolled 4]. She'll use a luck point to reroll if it fails [rolled 84]

KC: yes I will be willing to split the cost of any general spells that we acquire, it seems only right as it benefits multiple members in our group.

KC: As to learning spells here are some; (need 70 or less)

Find Find Familiar rolled a [rolled 58]
Light rolled a [rolled 23]
Magic missile rolled a [rolled 91]
Fireblood rolled a [rolled 30]
And Read Magic (if we a quire it) rolled a [rolled 40]

KC: (GM) just clarifying if we found a Read Magic scroll or mage to train one of us. I put it on my list but you didn not mention either way like all the rest of the spells listed with either a price or a NA. Than Morty mentioned he wanted it also a few posts later.

SHAARILLA: Shaarilla also knows Read Magic, so she can teach others who are interested. She learned quite a few GK spells during the time we got training from a deck of cards...

GM: Looks like you learned everything except Magic Missile.

GM: I don't see a scroll with Read Magic on it. You have a damaged book that still has the following legible spells: Spell Store and Circle of Protection from Detection. If someone wants to buy Read Magic, it will cost 500 sp.

SYL:
Learn Spell (Mage Armor): [rolled 40]
Learn Spell (Magic Missile): [rolled 38]
Learn Spell (Find Familiar): [rolled 91]

SYL: Use a Luck Point for Find Familiar
Learn Spell (Find Familiar): 65 or less [rolled 58]

GM: Syl uses her remaining Luck point for September and learns all three spells.

GM: For those that learned the Find Familiar ritual, you cannot buy it higher than rank 1 until you have summoned a familiar. If you want to summon a familiar, let me know and also let me know if you are going to take any special actions when summoning it, such as summoning it in the middle of town, well outside of town, on a nearby asteroid, on the deck of the Star Sprite in the middle of the phlogiston, etc. Note that attempting the ritual in the middle of the phlogiston will result in a much lower chance of success but, if you do succeed, you will get a familiar that is somewhat native to the phlogiston.

GM: Casting the ritual costs 100 sp.

GM: Once you have a familiar, you can cast the ritual every time you raise it a rank to gain points for special abilities.

SYL (GM): What would it take for Syl to learn Circle of Protection from Detection from the (damaged) book we possess? Thinking of the Mind Mage we keep having to dodge...

GM: Just need to send a Learn Spell roll to learn the circle.

SYL (GM): Use a Ritual of Preparation to chance of famliar showing up by 30% so total should be 72 {(MA-15)*6+30}. Since ths a Spell Jamming session she will attempt in the Phlogiston this first time. If unsuccessful maybe she will "settle" for trying from a normal location in the future...

SYL: Chance of appearing is 72 [rolled 87]. If need be use Luck point [rolled 27] - would LOVE to be able to use Fate Point to guarantee someone/thing showing up but not an option :(

Syl asks Shaarilla to take the Star Sprite up for a day so that she can cast a Find Familiar ritual in the phlogiston. Shaarilla agrees. Once well away from Fangora, Syl begins her rituals. She starts by isolating herself from all distractions for 24 hours, sleeping and resting. Then she starts a Ritual of Preparation lasting 10 hours, followed by a Ritual of Find Familiar lasting another 3 hours. At the end of this time, a black bird flies into the magic circle, alighting on the deck in front of Syl. Both she and Shaarilla recognize it as a Starbird. They generally fly in flocks and tend to live among isolated asteroids that have both water and plants (they eat bugs). Flocks have been known to migrate up to 2000 miles in search of fresh asteroids when they feel they must migrate. Once well into the phlogiston, they can fly up to 100 MPH.

GM: Come up with a name and a picture if you choose. A Starbird is mostly black and about the size of a large crow or small raven. They have tiny white spots on their wings and body.

GM: Go ahead and make the initial rolls:
STR 1d4
DEX 2d6+13
CON 3d6
INT 3d6
KNOW 1d4
WP 3d6
MA 4d6+1
LUCK 3d6+7
CHA 4d6+1
PER 4d6+1
Special Ability 1d100

SYL: Familiar rolls:
STR: [rolled 2]
DEX: [rolled 4 2 (+13)- Total: 19]
CON: [rolled 1 5 3 - Total: 9]
INT : [rolled 4 6 1 - Total: 11]
KNOW: [rolled 1]
WP : [rolled 6 4 6 - Total: 16]
MA: [rolled 4 3 5 2 (+1)- Total: 15]
LUCK: [rolled 1 2 4 (+7)- Total: 14]
CHA: [rolled 4 3 3 2 (+1)- Total: 13]
PER: [rolled 4 2 5 3 (+1)- Total: 15]
Special Ability: [rolled 95]

GM: The familiar is able to speak. Since you are only rank 1 with the ritual, then the familiar is only rank 1 and thus, only rank 1 with either Putarrhan or Drow, your choice. When you increase your rank with Find Familiar, and cast the ritual again on your familiar, the familiar will become level 2 and will then be rank 2 with the language. When you cast the ritual again at rank 2, you will also roll for another special ability for the familiar. Depending on the cost of the special ability, it may gain it immediately or may have to wait another rank or 2 to gain it.

GM: Also, if you want to use your Fate point, you can roll again for all of the familiar stats and take the higher of the two rolled.

SYL: Will name the male Starbird "Habu" (one of the nicknames for the SR-71 Blackbird) and she will attempt to raise Habu to Rank 3 before we leave Fangora. Each time she attempts the ritual she will perform the Ritual of Preparation. from the Spell description the normal % is (20% + 3%/rank) so 35 + 30 is 65% correct??

Rank 2 Preparation: First Try [rolled 82 vs cast chance of 65 - Failed Cast Chance!]
Rank 2 Preparation: Second Try [rolled 31 vs cast chance of 65 - Successful Cast Chance!] via Luck Point since it specifically says we can for Failed Rituals...

GM: Syl does not have any Luck points remaining. She can cast it a second time but it will require the additional time and spell components.

Rank 3 Preparation: First Try [rolled 53 vs cast chance of 65 - Successful Cast Chance!]
Rank 3 Preparation: Second Try [rolled 77 vs cast chance of 65 - Failed Cast Chance!]

SYL: Assuming one of the Rituals succeeds, Habu's next Special Ability Roll is: [rolled 44].

SYL: Assume I take the 44 on the Special Ability?? If so that is INT +1 at a cost of one point so I will roll a second assuming Habu gets two successful rituals.
SYL: Speical Ability [rolled 38]

GM: Syl casts the ritual 3 more times. The first time it fails so she waits a day and tries again, this time with success. The familiar gains a point of INT and goes to rank 2 with Putarrhan.

GM: The next day, Syl casts the ritual again. The next power that Habu will gain is Stronger Link but it costs 3 points so will probably not get the power until Syl is rank 5 with the ritual. She should still cast the ritual at rank 4 because if she gets critical or grievous success, she gets additional points and could gain the power sooner. Habu is now rank 3 with Putarrhan, which means he can speak it brokenly.

SYL: Will she have time to raise Habu to Rank 4 (Rank 5 will probably happen when we get XP for Sep, all she needs is one rank of HP) before we do anything/go anywhere?

GM: You've had 2 months+ so go ahead and buy another rank.

SYL: ritual of preparation for +30

SYL: [rolled 21 vs cast chance of 65 - Successful Cast Chance!].

GM: You gained another point towards Stronger Link. Habu is now level 4 and is rank 4 with Putarrhan and able to speak it better.

GM: Hoping to wrap up all of the shopping, training, etc. by the end of the week and send the next turn on Monday getting started on the next adventure.

SHAARILLA: Just to be clear, are we planning to go to the airless area where the next key might be found next? I think we already have the cold weather gear, stuff we picked up in the town behind the barrier of winter. We will also need to restock on normal provisions. And most importantly, we need to stock up on air!

SHAARILLA: Shaarilla can now slow cast Sphere of Fresh Air without chance of failure. She’s been practicing that spell :-) I was thinking that is preparation, she should load all seven slots of her Wand of Spell Storing with Sphere of Fresh Air spells to maximize how long we can last in the airless area. At her current level, the sphere is 22 ft radius, and lasts 6 person hours. Much better than when we first were considering exploring that area.

KC: Does anyone have the in investment ritual? This sound like a good time for it. It could also be useful with some COP vs detection to help hide from the gangs mind mage that is hunting us.

KC: with the sphere of fresh air on an invested item it would stayed preped longer and we could have more of them on hand.
