The Ring of Blue Sparks has two properties:
  • Shocking Grasp - The ring can be commanded to generate an electrical charge that causes 1d8+6 damage to a target when touched. There is no save but protection applies if the target is wearing leather, reinforced leather or scale armor (or magical protection such as Bracers of Protection). No protection applies for targets wearing ring mail, chain mail, plate mail or plate armor and, in fact, it is easier to hit such targets and damage is higher as the electrical energy will arc from the wand to the so-armored target. Strike chance is increased by 10 and damage by +1. If the wearer is attacking with unarmed combat, the target's protection applies separately to both attack modes (assuming protection applies at all; see above). If not using unarmed combat, but just trying to touch their opponent, their strike chance is equal to (DEX x 5). The ring can be used 3 times in 10 rounds (maximum of once per round) before it becomes inert for 10 rounds to recover its charge.
  • Protection from Lightning - The wearer gains a bonus of +10 to saves vs lightning or other electrical attacks and all damage is reduced by 50%. Thus, if they fail their save, they take half damage whereas, if they make their save, they take a quarter damage.
