Magic Item Name:Horseshoes of the Zephyr
Power Level:
Who Has This Item:No one
Attunement:
These silvery horseshoes allow the horse to travel slightly above the ground, as though buoyed by air.

When worn:
  • The horse floats roughly 4 inches above the surface.
  • The mount leaves:
    • no hoofprints
    • no scent trail
    • no physical tracks

The horse can move across:
    • mud
    • snow
    • sand
    • swamp
    • shallow water
without penalty.

The mount does not actually fly:
  • it must still move along a surface
  • it cannot cross open chasms or empty air

Major Benefits

Because the horse never physically touches the ground:
  • It cannot trigger many ground traps.
  • It ignores many forms of difficult terrain.
  • Pursuit and tracking become extremely difficult.

Limitations
  • The mount cannot climb vertical surfaces.
  • Deep water is still dangerous.
  • If even one shoe is removed, the effect ends.

Horseshoes of the Zephyr are considered one of the most useful mounted magic items in AD&D because they combine:
  • stealth
  • mobility
  • wilderness utility
  • travel enhancement

without directly increasing combat power.
