A target protected with this spell is imbued with positive energy that can offset the negative energy of life draining attacks from creatures such as shadows, wights, wraiths, spectres, or vampires) and certain weapons and spells that drain energy (STR, CON, etc.).
When the target is hit with a draining attack, there is a flash of light and a thunderclap. If the target makes their magic save (modified by the power of the creature, as indicated below), they do not suffer the drain of the attack but still suffer the normal damage of the attack. Additionally, the attacker, if undead, suffer damage, as indicated below.
Undead | Save Modifier | Damage |
Shadow | -0 | 3d6 |
Wight | -5 | 2d6 |
Wraith | -10 | 1d6 |
Spectre | -15 | 1d6 |
Vampire | -20 | None |
The duration of the special. The spell will lie dormant on the target for up to 30 minutes per rank of the cleric but, once the target enters melee with an energy draining creature, the spell will last for 1 round per 2 levels of the caster (round up) and then end. Thus, a level 5 cleric could cast this on a target and it would last for up to two and a half hours, or until the target entered melee with an energy draining creature, after which the spell would no longer be dormant, but the duration would end after 3 rounds of combat.
If the target of this spell rolls a critical success to their save, the undead attacker suffers 1d6 damage. If the save is a grievous success, the damage is 2d6 instead of 1d6. |
