The character is skilled at stalking prey and knowing where to look to find animals to hunt. If he spends a day hunting, he can attempt a Hunt roll (((DEX - 15) x 3) + (Rank x 5), assuming decent hunting grounds. The character can determine how good the hunting grounds are with a successful Identity Hunting Grounds roll ((((PER + KNOW) - 30) x 1.5) + (Rank x 5)).
Note that the character must generally be skilled in some sort of ranged weapon in order to hunt. This is usually bow or crossbow but could, with the GM's permission, be some sort of spell or a thrown weapon. A stealthy character may be able to hunt with just a melee weapon by lying in wait for game.
Compare the Hunt roll to the following table:
Result | Game Table Roll |
Absolute Success | Roll on Game Table at +5 (+1 per rank) |
Success | Roll on Game Table at +1 per rank |
Near Success | Roll on Game Table at -8 (+1 per rank) |
Partial Success | Roll on Game Table at -15 (+1 per rank) |
Failure | No game found |
Absolute Failure | Hurt while hunting. Take 1d10 damage. Roll d%. On a roll of 99-100, sustain a grievous wound. |
Blunder | Hurt while hunting. Take 2d10 damage. Make 3x LUCK roll to avoid a grievous wound. |
Game Table
Note that the animals listed are examples. The exact animal will depend on the animals that are native to the area. Note also that if the food is not preserved in some way (e.g., Purify Food and Drink spell, some sort of cold spell or effect, or by smoking it) it will go bad. How quickly this happens depends on the environment, but typically it will be a couple of days.
