A flaming sphere spell creates a three foot diameter burning globe of fire somewhere within range. At low ranks, the mage must direct the sphere by pointing the direction he wants it to travel. Note that the flaming sphere must be created within range but may move out of range thereafter. The sphere moves at a TMR of 20 plus rank times 2.

The sphere rolls over barriers less than 4 feet tall, such as furniture, low walls, etc. Flammable substances that fail their save vs. normal fire are set afire by contact with the sphere. Creatures in contact with the globe must successfully save vs. magic or suffer 2d4 points of fire damage. Those within 5 feet of the sphere's surface must also save or suffer 1d4 points of heat damage. A successful saving throw means no damage is suffered. The GM may adjust the saving throws if there is little or no room to dodge the sphere.

At low ranks, the sphere moves as long as the spellcaster actively directs it; otherwise, it merely stays at rest and burns. Starting at rank 12, the sphere will move even if not directed. At ranks 12 to 21, it will continue moving in the last direction indicated, at half TMR, once the mage stops directing it. If it hits a barrier that it cannot roll over, it will "bounce" and continue to roll in the new bounced direction until the spell ends or it bounces again. At rank 22, the mage can direct the sphere to move continuously at full TMR, either in a straight line, bouncing off surfaces it can't roll over, or he can direct it to move in random directions, changing direction every round or two rounds or whatever the mage desires.

The sphere can be extinguished by the same means as any normal fire of its size. The surface of the sphere has a spongy, yielding consistency and so does not cause damage except by its flame. It cannot push unwilling creatures aside or batter down large obstacles.
