The mage may summon one non-fantastic flying entity per every 4 ranks with the spell (minimum of 1). The avian must be native to the area (within 2 miles per rank) and the mage must state the species he is calling (one per spell) before attempting the spell. The spell requires that the mage actually whistle to call the desired creatures. If he can't whistle (or if his character is not in a position to vocalize), he may not cast the spell. The spell does not grant any means of controlling the creatures once summoned. How long it takes the avians to answer depends on how far away they are.
The spell allows for the calling of normal sized birds such as eagles, falcons, owls, hawks, etc. At rank 13, the mage may call 1 fantastic flying creature instead of 2 normal flying creatures. For example, at rank 13, the mage can normally call 4 avians but he could instead choose to call 2 fantastic avians such as griffons, rocs, manticores or pegusi. The creatures must still be native to the area. |
