The mage may summon a Fire elemental and bind him to temporary service by performing this ritual. The ritual takes two hours. It may only be performed if the summoner remains stationary and takes no other action during the time the ritual is being performed. If the ritual backfires, the elemental arrives but is uncontrolled and will attack the summoner and his friends.

A Fire elemental always appears within 20 feet of a summoner. The summoner then has the option of sending it off on a specific task or binding it for future use. The mage can only have one bound fire elemental until he is rank 20. He can have 2 at ranks 20 and 21 and 3 at rank 22. Bound fire elementals can be summoned and controlled with a Summon Fire Elemental spell (as opposed to another ritual). As a general rule, a fire elemental doesn't want to be here and so the summoner can attempt to persuade the elemental to serve his needs by offering gifts. Doing so will ensure that the elemental will serve the intent of a task instead of the letter of the task. It can also avoid the elemental turning on the mage if he loses consciousness.

A Fire Elemental cannot be summoned and bound to a mage who is in a location where fire cannot exist.

The size of the elemental depends on the mage's rank with this ritual:
