Any type of object that contains a lock can be the target of this spell. The lock will be locked normally (i.e., it can be opened normally with the right key or by picking it). If the object has more than one lock, the mage can choose which lock is the target of this spell. At rank 10 and higher, the spell will also cause the object to close if it is not already closed and nothing is preventing it from closing. Thus, the mage can target an open door, causing it to both close and lock. If the door is blocked by some sort of obstruction, the mage may still be able to cause it to close if the strength required to remove the obstruction is equal to or less than the mage's rank with this spell, minus 10. Thus, if the mage is rank 11 with this spell, and targets a door that is blocked open with a brick, he will not be able to cause it to close.
As the mage's rank increases with this spell, he can target more than one object. At rank 13, he can target two locks. This could be two locks on a single door or even two locks on two separate doors as long as both are in range.
