The caster may determine the direction in which he will find any person or object of his desire which he has previously encountered or studied and which is within (rank x (rank / 2)), rounded up. Range is 250 miles at rank 21 and 300 miles at rank 22. The direction will be indicated by a large glowing arrow that appears in front of the mage and stays with him for the duration of the spell or until he wills it gone (ending the spell). Note that the mage must have a strong familiarity with the target of the Location spell. It must be a person that he knows moderately well or an item that he has held in his hands and studied for a significant period of time. The GM is the final arbiter on whether a Location spell will work to find something or someone.
This spell will not find objects obscured by a Circle of Protection vs. Detection, a Circle of Protection vs. GK Spells, a Greater Circle of Protection or an object or person over which an E&E GK Counterspell has been cast. Nor will it detect through magical barriers such as a Wall of Force.
If this spell is cast and the target is not in range or otherwise not findable, the spell will still function, but the arrow will simply spin in place. If the target becomes targetable while the spell is still up, the arrow will suddenly stop spinning and will point towards the target. For example, if Darius casts this spell and target's Rue, but Rue is protected by a Circle of Protection vs Detection, the arrow will simply spin in place. It will continue to spin until Rue is no longer protected by the circle, at which time the arrow will point towards him.
Note also that this spell will only indicate direction in two dimensions. If the target is above or below the caster, the arrow will point to the location where the target would be if they were at the same level as the caster. Thus, if the target is in a cloud castle 2000 feet in the air, the arrow will lead the caster to a location directly below the target. With critical or grievous success, the caster can choose to have the arrow work in three dimensions.
