This ritual has two functions.
First, simply by being ranked in the ritual it allows the wearer of the Ring of the Tower to increase the distance that a Near Door can be placed. The following chart is used to determine maximum distance.
Rank | Distance | Duration |
0 | 100 feet | 1 hour |
1 to 10 | 100 yards per rank | 6 hours per rank |
11 to 21 | 1 mile per rank | 1 day per rank |
22 | 100 miles | Until dispelled by caster |
If outside the tower, the ring wearer can summon the door to his location as well, assuming they are within the range of their ability. The near door looks to be a 7 foot tall arched doorway ringed in stone. From the back it is solid stone.
Second, it allows for the placement of a second, permanent door The placement of this door requires the use of this ritual and once placed, for all intents and purposes is permanent. The door placed, is 8 feet tall and is an ornate and engraved door. The engravings themselves have no meaning but are just ornate scrollwork. The door is ringed with a 1 foot wide border of worked stone. From the back, the doorway is simply solid stone.
The main benefit to gaining ranks in this ritual for the purposes of the second part, is with the frequency with which the character is able to move the door once placed. The following chart shows the frequency with how often the permanent door may be moved.
Rank | Frequency |
1 | Permanent once placed |
2 | 25 years from when placed |
3 | 10 years |
4 | 8 years |
5 | 7 years |
6 | 6 years |
7 | 5 years |
8 | 4 years |
9 | 3 years |
10 | 2 years |
11 | 1 year |
12 | 11 months |
13 | 10 months |
14 | 9 months |
15 | 8 months |
16 | 7 months |
17 | 6 months |
18 | 5 months |
19 | 4 months |
20 | 3 months |
21 | 2 months |

With both the Near Door and the Permanent door, the ring wearer can choose for the door to be either locked or unlocked. If unlocked, anyone can use the door both in and out from the tower. If locked, only the ring wearer may open the door. |
