This mental version of the Sending Spell allows the mage to contact someone whom they know at range. At ranks 1 to 20, range is equal to (rank x rank x (rank /2)), rounded up to the next whole number. At rank 21, range is 6000 miles while, at rank 22, the mage can reach any location in the world. Using this formula, the ranges are as follows:

The caster may attempt the contact in one of two ways - either by simply attempting contact, in which case the target will feel a spell attempting to influence him and may attempt a mental save to resist, or the caster can send an image of himself with the casting of the spell, in which case, the target will mentally see an image of the caster as the spell is being felt and may then choose to accept the spell or attempt a mental save to resist.

In either case, the spell is only capable of sending and receiving surface thoughts. If the target did not desire the communication, and failed their save, they may attempt a new save each round though the caster is free to mentally talk to the target during this time just as the target may talk back. Mental communications tend to be three times faster than speech so a lot can be exchanged during the short duration of the spell.

At rank 22, the target need only be on the same plane as the target for the spell to find him.

At no time does the caster get a feel for the distance and direction of the target.

Once communication is established, it will last for the duration of the spell. However, the caster can extend the duration by expending 2 spell points to have it last another (rank x 1) rounds. He can do this automatically as the duration ends. He can continue to do this for as long as he has spell points remaining.

This spell cannot contact a target who is protected by a Circle of Protection versus Detection, a Greater Circle of Protection, completely enclosed in a Wall of Force, or similar magics.
