By means of this spell, mage is able to show any animal (with normal animal intelligence) that the mage is disposed to be its friend. If the animal fails its magic save immediately when the spell is cast, it will stand quietly while the mage finishes the spell, which takes 10 minutes to cast. Thereafter, it will follow the mage about and remain loyal so long as the mage feeds and cares for it. Animals under the influence of this spell will learn "tricks" easier (+25% to the mage's Animal Trainer roll). Befriended animals will revert to their normal state if left for a long period of time. A befriended animal may be safely left alone for 1 day per rank. An easily domesticated animal could be left for much longer. An animal that the mage has spent much time in training will also remain loyal after a longer absence.
The mage must have a piece of food attractive to the animal subject for this spell to function. |
