This spell turns natural rock into an equal volume of mud, dirt or sand, or vice versa. If it is cast upon a rock, for example, the rock affected collapses into mud or changes to normal dirt or sand. Magical or enchanted stone is not affected by the spell. The depth of the mud created cannot exceed 10 feet. Creatures unable to levitate, fly or otherwise free themselves from the mud sink at the rate of 1/2 of their height per round and eventually suffocate, save for lightweight creatures that could normally pass across such ground, or creatures that are taller than 10 feet. Targets within 5 feet of the edge are allowed a 2x DEX roll (on percentile dice) to jump clear of the mud.
Normal methods can be used to free someone from the mud, including ropes, tree branches, etc. Creatures tall enough to walk on the buttom can move at 10 feet per round.
The duration of the spell is permanent though mud will eventually dry out to normal ground. If a counterspell is cast within 1 hour, the effects will also be reversed but, after that time, the ground is non-magical.
This spell affects a 10 foot cube per rank. |
