The spell creates an oaken shard that flies towards the target from the mage's fingertips. Damage is dependant on rank, as indicated below:
Rank | Damage |
1-5 | 1d6 |
6-10 | 2d6 |
11-15 | 3d6 |
16-20 | 4d6 |
21 | 5d6 |
22 | 6d6 |
Damage is armor-piercing (target gets the greater of half their PROT or their LOW). After the initial casting, the mage may fire another shard every round for the duration of the spell. The target is not allowed a saving throw against the attack but does get normal armor protection. This spell is completely ineffective against any creature with any type of woodland protection (Green Mages, Barkskin spell, etc.).
While the spell is active, the mage can move up to half TMR and still target someone with an Oaken Shard that round. Faster movement does not end the spell but prevents the caster from loosing a shard that round. If another spell is cast while Oaken Shards is active, the Oaken Shards spell ends. If the mage is in melee combat while Oaken Shards is active, they can use an Oaken Shard attack in lieu of a normal melee attack. Once an Oaken Shards spell is active, it still requires both verbal and somatic components to use each round, but this is as simple as pointing a finger at the desired target and muttering a command word. This can be done as long as one hand is free and the caster is able to speak. |
