A teleport trap redirects those who are attempting to teleport to a new destination. The area of effect is a 100 foot radius sphere (+50 feet per rank). If any sort of teleport-type spell, including Blink, Dimension Door, Teleport, Word of Recall, Succor, etc., the Teleport Trap activates and sends the person to a destination chosen by the caster of the Teleport Trap.
While the Teleport Trap is active, their is a risk that the creator of the trap may be caught by it. There is a flat 5% chance that, at some time for the duration of the trap, the caster will suddenly be teleported to the destination. Additionally, each time the caster casts a spell, an additional check is made. Finally, any time the caster casts a teleport type spell, another chance is made at +10%. For this reason, Teleport Traps are not usually set to instant death type destinations or places that are impossible to escape from. (The GM should arbitrate all uses of this spell to prevent a hopeless situation for someone caught in a Teleport Trap.)
This spell is really more of a ritual that takes one hour to cast and requires two sets of ritual components. The area of effect centers on the location of the caster when the ritual is performed. The caster has a high degree of flexibility in shaping the area of effect. The listed area should be used as a guide. |
