By use of an Extension spell, the wizard prolongs the duration of a previously cast General or Special Knowledge spell. The mage's rank with this spell is added to the rank of the target spell to determine the new duration. Thus, a levitation spell can be made to function longer. Naturally, the spell affects only spells that have durations. This spell can be cast at any time while the target spell is in effect to extend the duration.
For the purposes of duration, this spell can extend the duration above rank 22, but if there are special range notations for high ranks, these are ignored. For example, a Haze of Shadows spell lasts for 10 minutes per rank from ranks 1 to 20, 6 hours per rank at rank 21 and 12 hours at rank 22. If a rank 12 Extension is cast on a rank 15 Haze of Shadows, the effective rank of the Haze of Shadows becomes rank 27 for the purpose of duration, which will cause it to last 270 minutes instead of 150. The duration remains 10 minutes per rank, now computed as a rank 27 spell, and ignores the normal rank 21 and 22 Haze of Shadow bonuses for duration.
This spell can be cast on any spell of which the mage is aware, either from sight or from power perception. |
