By means of this spell, the caster conjures a normal animal to serve him as a mount. The animal serves willingly and well, but at the expiration of the spell duration it disappears, returning to its own place. The type of mount gained by this spell depends on the rank of the caster; of course, a caster can choose a lesser mount if desired. Available mounts include the following:
Rank | Mount |
1 | Mule or Light Horse |
6 | Draft Horse, Medium Horse or Light War Horse |
10 | Camel, Heavy Horse, or Medium War Horse |
15 | Elephant or Heavy War Horse |
20 | Elephant with Howdah |
21 | Griffon |
22 | Griffon with Saddle |
The mount does not come with any riding gear, unless it is of a class lower than the caster would normally be entitled to; thus, a rank 6 wizard can gain a light war horse without saddle and harness, or a light horse with saddle and harness. The statistics of the animal gained are typical of all creatures of the same class. The mount disappears when slain.
War Horses are combat trained to level 1 at the minimum rank needed to summon them. This improves by 1 per 2 ranks above the minimum; round down. Thus, a rank 10 caster could summon a medium war horse combat trained to level 1, or a light war horse with saddle and harness trained to combat level 3. See the equipment lists or monster manual for additional descriptions of the mounts.
This spell takes 5 minutes to cast. The mount remains for 1 hour per rank (24 hours at rank 21, 48 hours at rank 22) or until slain. |
