CIARA: Ciara opens her eyes and stands back up. Noticing several members of the group staring at her she replies with a shrug, "I have this odd gift for picking up visions from nature. I didn't get a lot of detail but I got the sense that some advanced technology was used here in the very recent past. That boosts my confidence that this is indeed a viable path to follow."

MYKEL: “Visions from nature??” he comments skeptically. He thinks to himself “I don’t recall her hitting her head on the way down… “

JIM JITSU: Jim does a quick series of martial arts hand moves, feeling the awesomeness that is Jim Jitsu, Martial Arts master, surge through him and says, "Let's do this!"

MYKEL: Mykel cautiously takes up the ropes and begins the crossing. Being both moderately strong and fairly dexterous, he works to help stabilize the others roped near him as they make their way across the lava pool.

With the plans made, and safety lines rigged, the group begins to put their plan into motion. Alzarix steps from the ledge onto the first crystal and makes his way across to the opposite edge, followed closely by Alyson. Mykel's foot slips when he steps across but the safety ropes prevent anything bad from happening and he quickly regains his balance. Gorman follows Mykel. George is next and he too is not very nimble and needs to be helped across by Gorman in front of him and Carter behind him. S'lch, Ciara and Jim bring up the rear.

Moving to the second crystal is a simple matter of stepping across as it is only about a meter. The first real challenge comes at the next crossing which is about two and a half meters. Alzarix launches himself across but his foot slips at the last minute and he comes up short. Fortunately, Alyson and Mykel both react quickly and tighten their grip on the rope, preventing him from falling. They pull a heavily sweating and shaking Alzarix back to the top of the crystal.

Alzarix regains his composure and tries again. This time he makes it across. It is not a great jump but he ends up clinging to the crystal and is able to climb to the top. He ties himself in and turns to help Alyson across. Then the two set up a rope bridge for the others to cross. Jim is the last to cross and he unties the rope from the crystal and jumps across safely.

By this time, Alzarix and Alyson have made it to the next crystal which was also a longer gap, almost three meters. They set up a bridge again and everyone else makes it safely across.

The next two crystals are relatively easy crossings. By this time, the lead members of the group are over 30 meters from shore and well into the region where geysers could erupt. It is here that the group reaches the first really big gap - 13 meters or so to the next crystal.

By this time everyone is sweating heavily from the intense heat. Carter and Alyson are feeling it the worse. In fact, Carter almost passes out but Gorman quickly hits him with Stimdose hoping that the stimulant will help. It does though Carter is still feeling a bit weak.

GM: Note that both Carter and Alyson have below average STA. S'lch does too but the heat bothers him less than humans.

The group rearranges the order a bit as Alzarix successfully lassos a stalactite that hangs down about halfway between where he is standing and the crystal he intends to swing to. Mykel moves back to be directly behind George, who has already slipped a couple of times and had to be rescued by Gorman and Carter who were flanking him. Now it will be Gorman and Mykel flanking him and Carter only having to worry about himself.

Alzarix pulls the rope snug. It is caught handily on an irregular protrusion on the rock and Alzarix keeps pressure on the rope to prevent it from swinging free. As the group discussed in planning, he then ties a nylon bag filled with stones to the bottom of the rope to maintain the pressure. A guide rope is added to allow Alyson to pull the rope back after Alzarix swings across.

On his first swing, the yazirian misses the crystal and swings back. He uses the swing to gain momentum and he reaches the crystal on the second swing. He secures a second guide rope to the swinging rope and then lets Alyson pull it back. Alyson swings across second with no difficulty and Carter pulls the rope back. It is when Carter attempts to swing across that the problem occurs. First, Carter fails to reach the far crystal, even with the help of the guide rope. Then, the rope that is secured to the stalactite slips ever so slightly. Fortunately Carter is able to hang on. And finally, a geyser of lava shoots up not far away and though it does not hit him directly, a small splash of lava hits him and burns painfully ([rolled 10] damage). Carter swings twice more and then, on the third swing, practically leaps from the rope to the safety of the crystal.

Image Two

Gorman pulls on the guide rope and brings the laden swing rope to him. George takes hold of the guide rope on this end and, after a couple of deep, and very hot breaths, Gorman launches himself across. He makes it the first time as Alyson pulls on the guide rope on her side. Gorman unties himself and George pulls the rope back and ties it on. He too takes a deep breath and launches himself across and, to everyone's amazement, makes it the first time. Perhaps he would have made it on his own but he was certainly thankful for Gorman's help pulling on the guide rope.

Even as George is crossing, Alazrix and Alyson are already concentrating on the next crossing. It is a distance of about 4 meters. Alzarix launches himself across and makes it the first time. He ties off a rope and helps Alyson across. She too makes it the first time. Carter follows using a makeshift rope bridge stretched tautly between the two crystals, with hand hold ropes help by Alzarix and Alyson on one side and Carter and Gorman on the other.

Mykel is the next one across the large chasm and he swings twice before George is able to pull him up on the opposite side.

S'lch uses a sling of his own design to attach to the swing rope for his crossing and makes the crossing look incredibly easy.

Ciara is next and makes the crossing easily.

Jim brings up the rear. He coils up the guide rope that was tied to this side and stows it and then swings across. Ciara and S'lch are manning the guide rope on the other side and give him an assist but disaster strikes. Perhaps the assist was a bit too forceful but, for whatever reason, Jim loses his grip and slides down the swing rope. He is brought up sharply by the safety rope tied around himself and the guide rope but then he hits the crystal below Ciara hard ([rolled 3] damage) and swings back. Jim, not wanting to put too much trust in the knots that hold the safety rope to the swinging rope, scrambles to regain his grip. He manages to not only regain his grip, but ascend back to his previous position and swing neatly onto the crystal. A geyser of fire shoots upward dramatically directly behind him but no lava comes his way.

At the other end of the crystal, Gorman and George have made it across to the next one while Alzarix and Alyson have move onto the large "crystal bridge". Alzarix's first attempt caused him to hit the crystal very hard ([1d10] damage) but he made it. Alyson made it with no problem. They create another taut rope bridge across the span and everyone else makes it with no problem.

Despite the heat, the group takes a very short break to catch their breath.

Image Three

It is a relatively easy crossing to the next crystal bridge as everyone is able to simply step across. Safety lines are still used and safety is still foremost in everyone's mind.

Image Four

Then come two long crossings in a row, both of which will require a repeat of the swinging rope crossing. First there is a span of about 9 meters, followed by a span of about 15 meters and the single longest span in the whole ordeal. As he did the first time, Alzarix easily snags an overhanging stalactite and he and Alyson recreate the swinging rope with one guide rope. Then Alzarix swings across and sets up the second guide rope on the opposite side. Alyson has difficulty crossing, swinging twice and getting hit by a splash from a geyser ([rolled 9] damage) before making it across. Then it is a simple matter of repeating the now well practiced steps of their first crossing. Not everyone makes it on the first time but with the help of the second guide rope, no one has any significant mishaps as they swing across and the rope stays securely anchored to the stalactite.

As the group is crossing the first long span, Alzarix is already working on the second. He loses his first lasso when it misses the stalactite and the end drops into the lake of fire and begins burning. He lets the rope go and pulls out a spare. This time he hits his mark true and the swinging rope is securely fastened. So securely fastened in fact that later, when Jim and Ciara attempt to shake it loose, they are unable to do so and end up having to abandon most of it (cutting off what they can reach).

Alzarix breathes a sigh of relief when his feet are planted firmly on the next crystal, putting him almost on the opposite shore. Before Alyson swings across, she gives herself a shot of stimdose as she can feel the heat taking its toll on her. She then swings across with no problem and, as each person finishes the first swing, they take up the guide rope freeing the person in front of them to take up the guide rope of the longer swing, which in turn allows the next person to swing across the longer span.

Image Five

Alzarix makes the next three spans look easy. None are much more than a couple meters apart and the last is to the far shore of the Lake of Fire. Alyson cross behind and they set up the rope bridges for the others to cross. When Jim finally plants his feet on the far shore, the entire group gives up a shout of victory as they have made it across without losing anyone, thanks largely to good planning, a lot of ropes and some highly acrobatic/dexterous people in the lead. They keep the immediate celebration short however, in favor of quickly departing the stifling heat of the cavern. It is only when they are a good hundred meters down the far passage, and the cool temperatures of the caverns have reasserted themselves, that they stop to take a longer, well deserved break.

S'LCH: The vrusk collapses to the cool ground when the group stops to rest. While he had surprised himself by not having any major issues crossing he had been terrified the whole time. "Lets not ever do that again."
